Looks like this is going to be finalized here in the upcoming days. Seems like it will be a neutral site (too bad it's not at Neyland because that would be a neat trip for people who haven't seen a game there). I'm guessing it will be either 2010 or 2012?

Whatever the case, good snag for NCSU, Fowler.

good to know that something official is going to come out

Charlotte would seem to be the logical neutral site, if they go that route. There are plenty of Tennessee fans in Western NC, and Charlotte is the only stadium of any size between the Triangle and Knoxville.

Well, I'm assuming it will be like the Bama/Clemson game, which would make it the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Classic Game in Atlanta, right?

A neutral site makes no fucking sense. Nobody gives enough shit about us to put us at a neutral game site with Tennessee.

^unless some promoter thought he'd cash in by counting on us bringing a boatload of fans for a huge nonconference game.

You realize Atlanta is between South Carolina and Alabama, right?

Why the fuck would NC State play Tennessee in Atlanta?

I do realize that. I also realize that Chick-Fil-A sponsored games are oftentimes played in Atlanta. I don't know where the game will be, just my assumption.

I'm not sure, but if it's on a neutral field and it's a season opening game, I could make a guess that it would be their College Kickoff game. And if that's the case, that would make it the Chick-Fil-A College Kickoff. And from there, I would assume Atlanta. Plenty of assumptions, but it all makes sense.

Couldn't it also be another ESPN Thursday night opener like the two SC games are

That would be pretty cool to open the season in Charlotte vs Tennessee

I would let Jaybee sleep on my couch

We were talking at work about the insanity that would be an ACC vs. SEC doubleheader in football held at Bristol Motor Speedway (they have been trying to organize a single game of UT vs. VT). 150k-180k fans for 8 hours of southern fried football. People would probably die, but it would be worth it.

Unfortunately Bristol Motor Speedway has place a huge scoreboard in the middle of the infield. They'd have to remove that in order to play a game there which would be costly. But yeah, to say that something like that would be awesome would be an understatement. They could probably even build some temporary stands on the track.

I would love to go to a season opener football game at Bristol. Tailgating would commence a week in advance, and every seat in the place has a good view.

Shit, leave the pole in the field. It would just make things more interesting.

I think tenn and VT were supposed to play a game at bristol a few years back, but then they put the pole in the infield so it never happened.

dual use? its a speedway. to play football there, the cost of removing that tower would be one of the cheaper upgrades needed.

but that would suck to watch football there anyways, you would be so far away from the action

Why wouldn't they just play on one side of the stadium?

It seems like there should be enough space on each side of the pole for a football field.

That way the pole can stay and the fans could be somewhat closer to the field.

Here's an idea: how about having the football game at a football stadium? The field won't be 75 yards from the nearest fans and you won't have to worry about installing a field and removing a scoreboard.

Except that Charlotte is not between the Triangle and Knoxville...its a straight shot on I-40.

Also, its naive to say that Charlotte is a "neutral" site, unless you count the UNC fans who would show up just to cheer against us. There are a lot of Tenn fans in the area, but not enough to cancel out all of our people. Tennessee fans do travel well, so it might not be a problem for them.

"of any size"

I don't see a UT-NCSU football game happening in front of 20K fans in Boone, or any of the smaller stadiums in Cullowhee or Asheville...

The whole point to it not being a football stadium is to fit ungodly amounts of people in there. Who gives a fuck if you can actually see the game? Half of our fans sitting at the 50 yard line in Carter-Finley are about 10 jack 'n cokes deep and can barely tell the difference between offense and defense as it is.

We are talking about putting 150,000-200,000 ACC and SEC fans in one place for two great football games... its like Woodstock, you just need to be there. Hell, we could probably cram two fields into Bristol and play both games at the same damn time. We could definitely do that at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

It would be pointless to do it in a football stadium because Neyland is already one of the largest in the world so you would always be settling for a smaller venue.

i haven't really read the thread, but do you people expect nc state to fill half of a 120k stadium in connecticut when our own stadium is rarely full to capacity at 60k?

is that what's going on here?
