any suggestions? I want an suv that has great cargo space but also a spacious 2nd row. looking at toyota 4runners currently..

You got a restriction on how big you wanna go? I mean if you want great cargo space, look at full size options like a Tahoe or Sequoia.

screw an X5, anyway. my dad had 2 of them (for the self-employed tax-write off). if you want a truck and have use for it, get a truck. if you can do what you need to do without a truck, a car is much better.

a crossover SUV is borderline useless at everything.

i currently drive a 97 bmw 328iS and it's getting to the point where it's time to do all the maintenance. it's a great car...just really up for something more sizable. someone who wants to put the work into my bmw will have a great time. it's in great condition. but anywho, it coincides with a time that i'm gettin married and all that jazz..so i'm lookin to get a decent size vehicle that is good for traveling and probably having a dog in the future. plus i like it to look pretty good.

no, what I'm saying is that if you plan on spending 20k + your E36 trade-in, you could spend it all on a 4runner...

or you could get yourself a really nice E46 330i/330ci to drive daily, plus a $2500 Cherokee or Trooper (which will actually get you a decent example) for those occasions when you actually have a use for it...and you'd probably still have a few thousand leftover (or you could spend another grand or so and get an older Tahoe or Yukon)

I can't imagine why you'd drop 20-something thousand on a 4runner...you can get so much more for that money.

you could get an S2000/350z/C5 corvette in place of the 330, too...or a G35...or G35 coupe...or IS300, you name it. Tons of better ways to skin this cat.

If "great cargo space" is a priority then a 4Runner isn't the option for you.
I have a 2003 (current generation) 4R and it has less cargo space than most midsized SUVs.
It actually doesn't have any more usable cargo space than the previous 3rd generation 4Runner.
The second row room is great for a midsize though.

If you want cargo space and $Rhode Island then get a Tahoe or Yukon.

If I were you I'd seriously consider getting the Sequoia unless you really want a midsize.
And if you really want a midsize with space then get a Honda Pilot...just don't expect to do much offroad with a Pilot.

So
#1 Sequoia due to it having nicer quality/reliability/ergonomics/looks than a Yukon/Tahoe.
#2 Yukon/Tahoe/Suburban cause you get a lot for the money (A lot of crap if you ask me, but you do get tons more room than a 4runner)
#3 4Runner cause if you're gonna get a midsize you might as well get the best midsize.

cargo space in 4runners are absolutely fucking awful. do not buy one for that. it's basically no more space than a big car.. it just sucks down gas & has an annoyingly small gas tank. i've owned two.

you want at least a tahoe size vehicle. the sequoia is a great option and has the Toyota reliability. the last tahoe i had had the 3rd row seats which i took out most of the time which gave me plenty of cargo space. before that i had a late 90's suburban.. if you want all the space you could ever use, go for a suburban

i mean, they are the same thing, just a slight difference in price



i remember when i was looking at trucks, I ended up getting the silverado over the sierra- the only difference was about 3g's and different interior color options




I also had a gmc suburban (before they switched to yukonxl's) and my father had the same year chevy- same deal as with the trucks....


I mean, if you wanted to go for a top of the line, then yeah, I like the denali's (more so than cadillac's), but other than that, why go for GMC over Chevy?

^ You have a special set of skillz required to keep a rusty old Range Rover chugging along.

I found out last summer that my neighbor at LKG gave away his Range Rover because something went wrong with the "4WD system" (I'm assuming transfer case or something?) He couldn't remember the problem, but he had been quoted $5k to fix so he just bought a Yukon. I asked him why he didn't just disconnect it since he isn't the type of person to need 4WD. He got a stumped look on his face and told me he thinks that's what the guy who picked it up must have done...He said the guy crawled under it and 10 minutes later he was able to drive it onto a trailer. I have no idea if this thing is full time 4WD or what, but I'm pretty sure he gave away a vehicle that could have been perfectly fine.

Most likely the transfer case shift motor was bad, I am assuming it was a 96-02 model.
