The differential between the mean intelligence test scores of Blacks and Whites (about one standard deviation, although it may be diminishing) does not result from any obvious biases in test construction and administration, nor does it simply reflect differences in socio-economic status. Explanations based on factors of caste and culture may be appropriate, but so far have little direct empirical support.

I am partial to this theory. I think the original poster of this comment may have overstated the correlation between emigration and intelligence, but I don't doubt there is a strong correlation.

even then its only about 55k. still not that good for over 36.

Also most places that are less ethnically diverse have a 'minority' group that has experienced some social disadvantages in life and they too typically do 1std deviation lower than the main group in their region.

that being said adopted kids don't do better on IQ tests than their biological parents regardless of how they are brought up.
