it's basically facebook statuses gone wild. you can follow anybody, anybody can follow you. you can do searches on whatever and see who is talking about it. you can find people locally who are interested in the same stuff as you.

for example, i quit my job thursday and friday afternoon alone i found 5 people in town in the same field as me and they have "tweetups" twice a week so now, next week i'll be able to go to one and meet some people who not only like stuff that i like, but also might be able to get me a job. it's pretty powerful once you get past the "everybody who uses the internet is a dork" thing

it's not JUST "i'm taking a shit" type of stuff. it's a lot more conversational than constant me-me-me stuff. same way things work on tww. look at the what are you thinking thread. sure, a lot of it is random one-off comments, but a lot of conversation goes on in there too, however valuable it may be. chit chat, whether virtual or irl, isn't always meant to be in depth conversations. and yet, a bulk of our day to day lives are filled with it

i guess you got to try it out to get it. i mean, it took me like 5 attempts over 2 years to finally get into twitter enough for it to make sense, but now that i do, it's pretty useful

Entertainers can boost there fanbase with Twitter - its gives am intimate glimpse into how they are 'human'. Like the other night Shaq was like he got a fresh cut before the game, so that made him seem very down to earth just the way he said it, or like what PDiddy tweeted from his BlackBerry, 'if anyone is with Q-tip tell me to cal me!' Its says hey you don't have to be a loser to love the internet, and people are attacted to that becasue you share the same habits with a millionaire that has a life.
