3/1/2009 8:33:52 AM
LOOKIN' GOODGHEY![/dontkickmyass]
3/1/2009 9:46:34 AM
6^ yea it is like high school wrestling, and then 2 years of this5^ nah this wasnt mma it was submissions grappling/bjj, he wasnt able to lay on top of me, he had good control of him in my gaurd and swept him and got back to my feet each time, and i did stop his takedowns later in the match, but by that point he was up 10-2 with like 45 seconds left so i went for a hammerlock finish at he end because i ws way too far behind on points but he defended that shit like a champ, it was basically the ol heave ho in terms of submissionsi think i got taken down 4 times, and defended 3, the dude had a beautiful deep shot, despite the fact that I sprawled he still got all the way to my ankle, he was just a stud he said he was gonna go to VT to wrestle^^^hah prolly a million wrestlers there, the ref and i were talkin before one of my matches and he said tournaments in this region, new york, and anywhere in the midwest gets the most wrestlers while florida and cali have heavily more BJJ based competitors and are virtually devoid of wrestlers, i cant complain, im based as a wrestler^^yea the NAGA in richmond, i dont mind wrestlers unless their shots were as crisp is that guy, but i gave him a cross face from hell near the endand i thought cutting to 200 pounds would make me the biggest guy there, i was definitely the smallest lol[Edited on March 1, 2009 at 2:33 PM. Do you have to make yourself hate your opponent to get mad and beat the shit out of them or is it easy to be like "Yo man, we tight but you're gonna kiss the ground tonight"?
3/1/2009 2:41:26 PM
3/1/2009 2:45:22 PM
What division(s)?
3/1/2009 2:48:16 PM
200lb Intermediateim not a sandbagger, there were alot of sandbaggers at this tournament though throughout all the divisionspeople just wanna get medals and swords they dont care about actually testing themselvesall my fights were tough hard fought decisions, so I think i am where i need to be, even in previous tournaments^nah man i dont hate my opponents im glad theyre there to challenge me i dont really have an emotion im pretty level headed and laidback, i honestly dont look at my opponent in the eyes they give too much awayi mean all fighters and grapplers talk like old pals before the competitions, then we just go out there and beat on eachother, then continue talkin afterwards, its pretty cool theres no animosity, for the record, people that walk around acting like jerks and hard asses arent true competitors [Edited on March 1, 2009 at 3:03 PM. man, if i had more time on my hands this sounds kinda fun (the bjj/grappling side..im not really that interested in the mma side at all) for an ex wrestler. Id compete at 135 - I am about 140 atm (assuming that is a weight class based on your response to someone elses question about someones weight), and even going to the gym on a regular basis I'd have to reallllly pick it up to get into something like this heh. I guess I'll have to check out the rules, my bread and butter my whole career was standing takedowns (not throws) and I am not sure how much that really plays into this stuff. I wasnt that great on top but luckily someone who is good on their feet in scholastic wrestling can really command a match (you can get 2 periods starting in your favor if you want).edit: hmm yea just watched some videos and it looks like a lot more on the mat stuff than I was thinking.[Edited on March 1, 2009 at 7:38 PM. these particular rules there is only one period, but yea like this guy did to me it actually worked to his advantage that i was able to control him on the ground and escape because he wouldnt have gotten any other points after the takedown, whereas i could have reversed him and attempted submissionsbut since i kept gettin him he kept gettin the takedown points lol, but yea if you have the gas to get takedowns and keep getting them then thats a dangerous skill setbut with alot of guys who are more experienced groundfighters than i will let you get the takedown or even pull or jump guard and work to submit you and fully engage on the ground.but yea the weight for this tourney was 130-139 and i then before that it was 129 and below all in one classid say find a good gym, that isnt doing anything other then mostly grappling (gi or nogi depending on what you want to compete in) and go about 2 or 3 times a week. that should be a plenty good goal, youll know when you are beginning to feel comfortable and if you are able to go more than by all means go more, the main point is to be dependable on how often u say youre gonna be there because for a good gym they arent just worried about getting your check each month they should want to get you better so that you can get the other students better and build as a team
