I don't mean to offend anybody studying or that studied psychology, but it seems like the #1 reason for people to study psychology is 'cause they percieve themselves as crazy and want to understand that.

Everyone I've dated was studying or studied psychology, and they were all crazy. The professor of this psychology class I'm taking also seems pretty crazy.

So, TWW, let's discuss. In your experience, are a disproportionate number of persons associated with psychology as a discipline crazy themselves or have I just had a biased sampling? To what extent does this result in the blind leading the blind?

i, too, have dated a psych major and yes, she was crazy.

she would hyper-analyze everything and always tried to turn everything into an argument. the smallest things would turn into arguments, even when i would compliment her she would turn it into an argument. after a while she would realize how dumb she was but the next day she would start the same old shit.

speaking of psychologists/psychiatrists, do like, hippie forms of those doctors exist? you know, the ones that just let you talk about shit and maybe give you hugs but don't over-analyze everything, overmedicate, or attribute everything to some form of self-medication (exercise, drinking, drugs, eating, being organized, etc, etc, etc).

it seems like these people always think stuff means something when it doesn't. i also feel like they are judgmental.

I was gonna double major in psychology and biology

but then I realized I didn't want to do an extra semester or two on a degree that wouldn't really amount to anything

so I just stuck with biology, so I'll have one worthless degree instead of two.

But yeah, I am kinda crazy.

Studies show that people in the mental health field are much more likely to seek psychiatric help themselves.

but it's not know if that is because those people seek out that field or because they can recognize the signs better to know that they need to seek care

I'm of the school of thought that everyone could benefit from some therapy.

^^well i'm just saying. JUST because you MIGHT drink with friends or MIGHT be a little OCD about organization, it doesn't mean that this MEANS anything. but i feel like these are the things they hone (hone, is that word?) in on. like OMG you drink, this is where all of your problems lie. yes, if someone wakes up and drinks straight vodka, perhaps. if someone has a few drinks with friends during the week, no.

i just can't take them seriously. i feel like a hippie one would be good maybe this is what i want to do with my life. i will listen to people, but i won't be so judgmental about their life choices

^i think everyone could benefit from therapy, too. the hard part is seems to be finding the right one. everyone just wants to get you in and out so they just give you pills. i just like to unload some good old emotional baggage on people. but if i had to listen to other people's problems all day, i suppose i would need therapy, too.

pretty much all the psychology majors I've known have been, maybe not crazy, but certainly off the beaten path

I want to go into psychology, but I don't want to practice anymore like I used to.

I just want to do research.

I dated a WFU psych major and she was a long way from crazy. Unless by crazy you mean offering to give me road head when we were on our second "first date" after a breakup one time.

yeah from what I've seen undergrad psych gets your foot in the door for office-y jobs if they require a 4-year degree, but not many people end up working in the field without going to grad school

but that's not about crazy psych majors

Maybe people who major in psych should consider this sometime before they graduate.
