They had life jackets, at least if the one survivor had one on I think they all would have had them on, at least I hope. I know this alone maybe not be enough, quite obviously since it was a bad storm, but it probably was the one thing could give them a real chance. The ocean is the real King of the Jungle. I see wht you are saying but that still flawed within itself. Whn you buy an anchor is it assume that you will buy enough line to account for all depths, 'rufts and valleys'' so to speak, on the ocean floor? Or better yet, does it account for a relatively unforeseen storm?

cant remember the rule of thumb, but basically you put out enough line to hit the bottom, then allow for enough for some movement from tides...might not have gotten a good secure hook on the bottom

the reason i mention the anchor though is it implies they couldve been sleeping, whereas if they hadnt been anchored, you'd expect they would be awake to assess the situation

i think the survivor is the one who said they were anchored
