http://caloriecount.about.comAnyone else use this site? I've found it makes me a lot more aware of what I'm putting in my mouth. Is there a way to see the recipe lists of other users? I can't seem to find that function (if it exists at all).

Told you.

I used it for a while. I found it randomly when I searched for something on Google that took me to one of the forum posts, and I never thought I'd end up actually logging stuff. But somehow I did and I lost 22 pounds. I still log on occasionally to read the forums.

Yeah, that whole "people who keep a food diary are thinner" thing really is true. And it also helped me learn how much protein, iron, calcium, etc. I was getting and figure out how I needed to improve those. And I learned I wasn't getting nearly enough fat too. So it's really helped me get a sense for what to eat every day to end up with what I need.

My friend called me a dork for this recipe http://caloriecount.about.com/steamed-broccoli-recipe-r193967

i have a small notebook i carry with me and write down everything i am eating, i've lost 30 lbs so far this year
3/4/2009 7:14:01 PM
^^That's amusing I definitely ate better today because of using fitday.
3/4/2009 7:21:29 PM
I downloaded that "Lose It!" app for my itouch....I haven't really used it that much though, I'm kind of too lazy to input all that I eat
3/4/2009 7:30:37 PM
^^ When I entered my ants on a log recipe, it told me it had 2200 calories Then I realized it was counting 24 raisins as 24 cups of raisins. Oops.
3/4/2009 7:34:51 PM
if youre conscious about calories, i'd say just stay below 2000 per day, and you should be ok
3/4/2009 7:37:10 PM
i was doing the food diary for a while but then i got stomach flu or whatever and didnt have anything to write for several days and got out of the habit

I've never had a problem with over-eating or obesity. My body just seems to "know" when I've had enough. I could be eating food with an unknown amount of calories, and I might eat too much at first, but then somehow my brain records that and the next time I eat less of that food without even trying to. I'm sure my general knowledge about food calories is playing a factor, but I'm not consciously calculating or adding anything. I'm not like "rainman"... at least I don't think -- I mean, I can visually judge the weight of food fairly well, and I'm aware that a gram of fat, alcohol, protein and carbs has 9, 7, 4, and 4 calories respectively, but I doubt I'm quickly calculating that in my subconscious. Or maybe I am. I dunno.... I think it's more of a body-feel thing. Like my tank is full, so my fuel light goes off... or something

I don't have much of a problem with eating too many calories, but I do need to be better about eating more balanced meals. I'm thinking by using this thing for a couple months I'll be eating better than onigiri every day for lunch.

i use thedailyplate.com
3/4/2009 7:57:33 PM
http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/Maybe this will keep me from needing to bring packages to my desk Or at least reduce it some
3/4/2009 10:56:38 PM
i use fitdayoccasionally I'll use the dailyplate to look food up
3/4/2009 11:00:36 PM
I think I might have just found something on the daily plate that I've so far been having trouble finding
3/4/2009 11:01:17 PM
I like the layouts of dailyplate and fitday, but I wish they have a recipe analyzer like calorie count. If only there were a way to port the recipe analyzer to the other sites. Unless I'm missing something on dailyplate and fitday.
3/5/2009 2:05:44 AM
I just look at the recipe, figure out the total calorie count for the recipe, and then adjust for my portion. It's not that much different from entering in all the components for a sandwich.
3/5/2009 12:06:30 PM
^ Well yeah, but why can't they have that feature built into the website is what I'm saying. That way you could save the recipe and just click on it whenever you wanted to enter it into the food diary and have it's complete nutritional information right there rather than just the calories.
3/9/2009 3:39:22 AM
maybe they figure that since you're tracking calories you're not a lazy person so it won't be a problem?
3/9/2009 7:11:01 AM
^^ fitday has "custom foods" that you can input yourselfso I'm sure you could put the nutritional breakdown of your favorite recipes that wayif you just like the simplicity of their grading system, then that's different
