Daily, I am around many people who jump at the least hint of anything, both positive and negative. For some reason, this annoys the everliving fuck out of me...like:

"JESUS TWIST, THE DOW IS DOWN 83.4759 POINTS FOR THE DAY"
me -wait and see

"Man, this plan is awesome"
me - wait and see

"my child is sick, she must have xyz disease"
me - wait and see

etc, etc. And in every case, it seem that cooler heads prevail.

Who else is like me? ....I guess I'll wait and see

I'm definitely a wait and see.

I also strongly believe that everything will work out in the end

because of this, I rarely get stressed out, which can be a bad thing sometimes.

I try to apply this principle whenever it is reasonable

I have worked with people like you, and have had people work for me who were like you. If I were to generalize this group of people, I would say they are usually people who fly under the radar and never get noticed, be it good or bad. So if wallowing in mediocrity is your thing, then I guess wait and see...

^^^^^meh it depends. I think in the end as long as its not a person who is wayyyy too quick to jump to action or conclusions it really ends up washing out in the end.

The people who dont wait and see get burned sometimes while other times they are ahead of the game.

The people who wait and see can often avoid extra work or doing the same work 2x or 3x over in my industry when compared to people who jump and redo calculations and design at the slightest hint that there is a design change coming. Obviously when those changes officially come the "jumpers" are ahead of the game and ready to go, but the times that they dont come or change form along the way to becoming approved then the "jumpers" end up doing the same work multiple times over unnecessarily taking time from other tasks.

Thats just an example of different personalities I see at work and how things work out. I'm sure that can be applied across a lot of similar situations though.

And I certainly disagree about not getting noticed. I tend to really like when people I am working with or for are more level headed and less jumpy and I know a lot of bosses who recognize this as a positive trait too.

Then again, I have a boss who rewards and recognizes getting all your work done in 40 hours just as much if not more than people who are in the office "working" 60 hours each week. And obviously some bosses are not like that at all so it is really going to come down to each individual person. What each of us values in ourselves...those traits are what we consider "good" and "noticeable" in other people but you have to remember that not everyone else works that way.

I'm a 'wait and see" person most of the time, and it has helped me many many more times than it has hurt me.

if you had heart attack symptoms would you wait and see? haha...when you're dead, you can wait forever you know

i don't really wait and see that much. i mean, if i have shit to do, i want to get it done not "wait and see" if someone calls me back, etc.

i guess for long term things, yes. but for day to day things, i cannot just wait and see. i feel like i'd be doing nothing all day long.

I bet a lot of people will give heated responses about how being too low-key and letting things unravel is a bad approach to life in general. I guess I'll wait and see.

I usually wait for circumstances to even out and prefer to think on things before I do them, but I've missed a lot of opportunities that way.
