What was that for? $10 is mighty cheap and since I don't know a single prescription that costs $430, I'll say that it's possible that you're paying too much for that $10 deductible to see your doctor where you might be able to get a $20 for a good bit less. Then again, I haven't priced insurance.

^^Did you try reading the rest of what's in the picture? And as an aside, if you don't know of any drugs that cost $430, then you should be thankful that you're healthy.

There are lots of meds that cost over $10,000 a year, sadly. Back when drugs for AIDS treatment were first under development, it was way more than even that. Most drugs that Big Pharma spends R&D money on never make a profit; they stay afloat from the occasional big seller that's reasonably priced (stuff like Lipitor, Singulair, Ambien, etc). But then there are the drugs that treat terminal illnesses--people are willing to pay anything they can afford because it's what keeps the disease at bay. They also generally are extremely expensive because these are the diseases that are on the frontier of medical research in the search for a wunderdrug--mostly AIDS and cancers.

nah, it's in fairly high demand, i'd sayit's been around for a considerable amount of time nowthere is no reason whatsoever for it to cost that much.^is correctunfortunately this isn't one of those drugs]

Cost effectiveness studies on pharmaceuticals are a joke, unfortunately.
3/7/2009 2:37:20 AM
it's even funnier to see how medicare determines if a certain procedure is worth paying for or not
3/7/2009 2:38:25 AM
Is it at least as good, or better, than existing treatment? Don't even tell me how much it's gonna cost, that doesn't enter into the equation.FUCK A DOLLAR. WE GON' SPEND MONEY.[Edited on March 7, 2009 at 2:40 AM. Reason : ]

5^ I can see where no money is made on those drugs that have been researched for years and marketed to a small minority terminal crowd, that's easy to understand. Now as far as I know, evan is not terminal and is using a mass produced drug that may have been researched for a while but is now without a patent and is being made in a generics lab (guess it could also be made under license). That seems like a completely different thing.]
3/7/2009 2:41:51 AM
^all of your statements are correct^^lawlll
3/7/2009 2:42:45 AM
^^What's even sadder is how many diseases are hardly even researched at all simply because there's no money in it if they find a cure or a drug to manage it.

I would guess that university medical centers are the hub for research that applies to conditions that the pharmaceutical companies at large choose not to research in. Then again, I'm not sure how much research universities do in pharmacology, but it's probably a fair amount.

Our son's Gamunex infusions costs something like $2-3,000 a month and it's a fairly common treatment for multiple diseases. Another of his medications (out of 6) cost just over $300 a month. If we didn't have health insurance to pick up the bulk of of those costs, we'd go broke just keeping up with his medications.

I was on interferon for a year. That shit was $2000 a month. Luckily I had some damn good insurance at the time.
