Since people stopped paying attention to the other thread... I thought I would create a new one.

OK, she was born 2 weeks too soon. I was gonna skype my wife on this coming Wednesday/Thursday and we were gonna talk for like an hour and figure it out. The first name is pretty much written in stone, as we have been calling her that for like 3 months now: Luciana (c = ch).

Her name will look like

Luciana ______ Lastname-Lastname

(Do you guys need our last names to make a better decision? If so, say it and I will post)

Thing is, I can't reach my wife right now, and probably won't be able to for about 12 hours. So, I just want people to choose their favourite(s) from the list below as a second/middle name, so that when I talk to her, hopefully I can present her a shorter list.

Thanks to those who already gave their opinion in the other thread, however, the list below has about 10-15 names more. And thanks in advance to those who will help here.

(All sorts of names below, Italian (biggest %), Spanish, English, French, Arabic, Polynesian, Hawaaian, Japanese, Russian, Native American... selected based on meaning and how they sound)

Our favorites so far are

Alana, Allegra, Elena, and Matilda.

I also like Imogen and Isolde.

I like Alana and Eva best.

Better to pick something simple and short for a middle name with long first/last names like that.

One thing to try would be to decide on how many syllables sounds good when you say the whole name out.

and congrats.

From the list probably
Clara or Eva shorter to say especially with two last names..

[Edited on March 7, 2009 at 10:01 PM. Reason : ^ yea don't want to have to take a breath while saying her name.]

thanks for the advice. i like eva too, but my wife won't go for it as one of her nieces is named that. but yes, we love alana. it is simple and rolls off the tongue smoothly.

in fact, luciana and alana are the 2 names we chose originally, a few months back.

i love simple smooth names such as eva and alana, but i also have a thing for strong names, such as argenta, matilda, fiorenza, mercedes, svetlana, zara, etc., but my wife doesn't!

Imogen or Isolde are so beautiful. Isolde is my favorite of the two. Not too fond of the other names.

^ True, too many a's, especially at the end.

Pick something that doesn't end in -a

Try Midori or Isolde. Anything that doesn't end in -a.

I have a first name that ends in -ia, I would hate having a middle name that ended in the same syllable.

that's one thing i have thought of before as well.

but luciana argenta
luciana matilda
luciana fiorenza
luciana imogen
luciana isolde

sound better together, than luciana alana.

i have a better suggestion for you: the thing [last name]. and don't worry, i won't steal it

thank god you see that! my wife doesn't... but i can't blame her, as she is english, so for her, those are stereotypical high-class snobbish english names. but to an outsider like you and i, they sound great! they are highly unique, when it comes to english/american names.

^ yeah, agreed.

Marie isn't that bad. He's already decided on the kids first name, she's already born, so there's not much we can do about that.

Luciana Marie FTW

If she's gonna be raised in America, I think it's better to have a semi-normal name at least.

imogen is terrible, IMO

just think that whatever you name your kid, take into account that it may be a name they hate.

a few of my friends & myself HATE our first names, so you gotta factor that in.

i always tell myself that i will not give my kid a name that he/she will hate when they get old enough to think for themselves
