No more sifting through all those unofficial lacrosse threads

Went to the Duke-Loyola game today. Not impressed.

UNC's undefeated, but hasn't played anybody of caliber.

Looks like Syracuse and Virginia brought back strong teams.

Who's your bet on?

I dunno, Princeton seemed to handle them pretty easily and UMBC gave them a run towards the end. But I guess there always has to be an obligatory Hopkins pick.

funny, I was thinking of starting this thread a few days ago, but I usually talk lax on the Navy boards.

I'm not sure what to make of UNC. Navy lost to them by 1 in what has to be one of the best games of the year so far, but then Navy went and lost to Bucknell

Princeton SLAUGHTERED Hopkins...they made a late run in the 4th quarter to make it look a little bette,r But hopkins' goalie was pretty awful for most of the game..but I remember at one point they showed a graphic that said Princeton had 50 shots

Army's goalie had a freaking insane game against Cornell - that dude was making saves left and right...I think he wound up with 22 saves and 9 goals allowed. Army really got screwed by the refs at the end of the game...and interference call took the ball away from them with the score tied and under 1:30 to go. cornell scored about 30 seconds later.

I'm buddies with Christian Swezey over at IL...when we went to Navy's bowl game this year in DC, he had me all hopped up on Navy this season. After 2 1-goal losses and allowing 9 goals against Lafayette, I'm not expecting much.

The parity that's evolving thanks to the rapid growth of youth lacrosse is pretty exciting to see. Hopefully some more ACC teams will get D-1 programs sometime sooner rather than later.

I'll be up in Baltimore in April for the Army-Navy, Duke-UMD, and Hopkins-Navy games...can't wait.

UNC plays Notre Dame today in South Bend. If UNC wins again, they might actually have something.

Interestingly, even with all the parity, the only teams to ever win the championship are Cornell, Virginia, Maryland, Johns Hopkins, UNC, Syracuse, and Princeton. It's hard to argue that it's not going to be on of those teams again. Duke had their chance and blew it twice. I'm hoping another outsider can win it.

I played my freshmen year and then decided I needed some cash flow so couldn't continue.

Haven't seen a game in a few years. I gotta work through Saturday, but I might check out the game against South Florida on Sunday.

In other news, UNC loses to ND by two. Not too surprised, their schedule was weak early.

I'm from upstate NY. My entire family is from upstate NY. My dad grew up a Syracuse fan and I've grown up watching their sports on TV since I can remember, including Lacrosse when applicable (usually just tourney time tho since its otherwise hardly on). So I apologize for growing up and watching a team that happened to be good.

but if you really want to know, I dont care about MLB, though I was a braves fan when I was really little. In hockey I cheer for carolina if I am watching. Football, I cheer for Carolina. Basketball I grew up a big Hornets fan and since they have moved I dont really pull for any particular basketball team.

with pro basketball and football, I grew up with different teams other than carolina/charlotte as well that my dad watched of course since they werent around when he was growing up and hes from NY, but I kind of adopted the local teams more than his. For college sports, I kind of adopted Charlotte since I was so close and went to a lot of games for their teams, but also cheered for Syracuse a lot. Of course NC State is now my #1.

well, as much as I hate bandwagon fans, I also hate when anyone assumes everyone who follows a successful team is a bandwagon fan themselves.

I met Casey Powell circa 1999. He told me that there was an EA Sports lacrosse game in the works. Casey Powell is full of shit. That's my take on Syracuse.

But on a more serious note,

I root for anyone over Hopkins.

Anyone going to the Duke-Virginia game on Saturday? UNC played Virginia to the final few minutes last week, I think this could be a good game and Virginia's first loss. The operative word being "could".

I don't live in NC, but even if I did, I'd still stay home to watch the doubleheader between Army-Navy and Hopkins-Maryland

i was supposed to go home for it, but I got a job and can't get away

I think Duke got jobbed with the #3 seed...it's odd how the whole unseeded thing works. They do the bottom 8 teams for matchups based on distance traveled. There is a 400 mile max limit on bus rides, and the committee tries to keep the number of air travel games limited to one or two wherever possible.

but I really think Navy and Maryland should be switched. I know that Navy played UNC this year on the road and lost by 1 (and played UNC in the first round in 2007 and 2008), but I really think Navy deserved the better matchup. plus it would be the 3rd revenge game in a row for Navy with Phelan in the goal. I honestly think if he had been in the goal all year, Navy would have been a one loss team going into the tourney and seeded in the top 5

otherwise, a lot of good matchups. I still think using RPI is bogus for men's lax. the sample size is so small...it's like picking march madness based on RPI's from the first week of Jan.

I'm interested to see how Duke and Notre Dame do. Notre Dame is undefeated, but their obviously weak schedule has them seeded low enough to face a tough first round game. I think both Duke and Navy are much better in the second half of this season than they were in the first. That should be a good game. I think Duke is arguably playing some of the best lacrosse in the country, recently crushing #1 Virginia for the second time this year.

yeah, Duke really exposed UVA, which is why I thought it was a shock when they still got the #1 seed. Duke's playing hot as shit right now.

By the way, I really hope the NCAA just decides to always hold the tourney in Baltimore at Ravens stadium after this Gillette Stadium thing is done. I know they'ce had good attendance, but Mass is too far north...it's kind of like the ACC having the football championship game in freaking Tampa

BTW, anyone see Ohio State set the record for attendance at the lax game before the football spring game? 30k+ came to see the game vs. ND

i was just thinking the same thing this past weekend (well not necessarily that it should always be at M&T but at least not in mass) but saw that wikipedia had it listed back at gillete stadium a few years from now

I think the Championship game should be moved around. I'm sick of both Gillette and M&T. Why not move it around every year, or at least establish a few more venues?

I wish Air Force didn't continually suck due to high standards of being a student athlete there; I would've loved to watch my friend Griffin Nevitt play on tv.

Air Force doesn't suck for that reason...this is Navy's 6th consecutive season going to the NCAA tourney and it's harder to get into Navy than it is Air Force

they primarily suck because they play in the GWLL and are in the middle of nowhere as far as lacrosse is concerned

Brown and Hopkins in a good game to kick off tourney weekend...4 games today and 4 tomorrow on ESPNU

Brown's defense has looked bad on a few hopkins goals...leaving a lot of guys open 3 yards or less away from the front of the crease
