Quote :
"Dan Leone, who the Inquirer said worked as a west gate chief, was unhappy the team let Brian Dawkins sign with the Denver Broncos in free agency. According to the newspaper, Leone posted the following on his Facebook page: "Dan is [expletive] devastated about Dawkins signing with Denver ... Dam Eagles R Retarted!!"

Despite deleting the comment, Leone told the Inquirer the Eagles fired him by phone days later.

"I shouldn't have put it up there," Leone said, according to the Inquirer. "I was ticked off, and I let my emotions go, but I didn't offend any one person or target a specific individual. I was just upset that we lost such a great guy. Dawkins was one of my favorite players. I made a mistake."

Leone said he was shocked to lose his job of six years.

"I apologized for it," Leone said, according to the paper. "I apologized 20 million times. I never bad-mouthed the organization before. I made one mistake and they terminate me? And they couldn't even bring me into the office to talk to me? They had to do it over the phone? At least look me in the eye. To get done dirty like this, I can't believe it. I'm devastated."

The Eagles confirmed that Leone was a part-time staff member, but didn't comment further."

This is like the 4th or 5th time I've seen something like this in the past few months alone

I don't think I would for something like this...it would have to be really egregious of multiple offenses

Nope.

In an instance like this, they're being fired for being too stupid to use facebook's privacy tools.

pretty weak reason for firing someone

enjoyed a comment I saw in another one of these threads / on one of these stories

these employers would never have the thought cross their minds to follow their employees to the pub to see if they discuss their day over drinks

i had a friend just the other day make a comment about work on his FB status, and a coworker ratted him out to his boss. his status was something like "coffee, check; tie, check; happy go-get-em attitude, check; wanting to stab self in the eye with pen, check." his boss then approached him about not having "team spirit" and asked him about the status.

he's since removed all of his coworkers from his friends

I would fire them for using "u" in place of the word "you" in a sentence.
In this case, I imagine it was done because the thread title was too long, and I'll let it slide.

Only if they're doing it on company time.

this is why i would never put anything compromising on facebook, and is why i've recently changed it to "friends only"

I probably wouldn't fire the guy, but I don't blame the Eagles for doing so

he played with fire, and he got burned

I'm sure no one gets fired just over a facebook status. It's a convenient excuse to can a low performer.

often times the people that complain about their job a lot in person and on the internet are poor performers at work, so they are probably being fired because its the final straw

all the people who complain and no one cares are probably doing a good job, but there is no news there so we never hear about it

I might fire a person depending on their performance because poor morale is contagious

It depends. If firing them makes me look bad, then no. If it makes me look good, then hell yes.
