...a 30-something divorcee and mother of 2, about to have her second marriage to a divorced man with 1 kid, registers for $2500 worth of cookware and $2200 worth of kitchen electrics? that doesn't even include the several hundreds of dollars worth of utensils, tableware, glassware, linens, etc. that are on their registry.

maybe i'm naive, or maybe i don't know the entire situation, but it seems to me that 2 previously married 30-somethings raising children would already have a lot of this stuff. maybe they're looking to upgrade (everything). i don't know, it just seems a little greedy to me.

lol, nm

they could have lost everything in their divorces, or could be looking for a fresh start with out needing cereal bowls and china to remind them of previous lives

Sometimes when you divorce you just say fuck it and leave everything behind except for what you need. The OP would make a VERY bad scientist, because she jumps right to conclusions without data. And she's and engineer right? Haha, i better watch out for her.

i would think that, yes, they probably should have acquired some acceptable form of cookware, electrics, utensils, etc by this point, but most people will take any opportunity to upgrade (especially if they don“t have to pay for it). really, they are just following the trend of using the wedding registry as an extravagant wish list. i suppose there really is nothing wrong with that--they are of an age that i would assume they are in charge of financing their own wedding and feel like they are spending enough for people to attend and be fed, giving a gift they would really like is an appropriate return.

what i would say is tacky would be bitching when receiving a gift not on the registry or slightly different/less expensive/whatever than an item on the registry.

This may be true, but...I find the OP's scenario is a bit on the tacky side.

Our original plan was to request that no one bring gifts, as we had everything we needed.

And if you're that old and have already established yourself professionally, why the hell can't you just go out and get exactly what you want?
