I've had this Jeep since 30,000, it now has 90,000 on it. Thus far, the only problems I've had with it were replacing power steering pump hoses. I've been good with the oil changes and had the tranny flushed at 60k, but the other maintenance stuff I've been a little lax about. However, I feel like this was probably a northern car (I think Michigan, actually) and it has more rust underneath (and in places like where the outer door skin meets the inner) than I am used to seeing. I just have this paranoid feeling that I'm not too far away from having some big time issues with it, be it transmission or rear diff or something.
I like it, but I wouldn't mind switching to something else, I just don't know what yet.
My overall question would be, if I am wanting to sell this thing, should I do it now at 90k miles while gas prices are still reasonable or just hang on to it and pay any repair bills that might come in the future? 3/10/2009 2:02:08 PM |

It depends...it looks like loaded ones in that mileage are worth about 7k. Any major repairs are going to cost around 2-3 grand.
I had an older body style 4.0 Grand Cherokee that was stock and just did regular maint. That thing lasted forever with no major issues, just replaced the water pump. 3/10/2009 2:07:02 PM |

If the vehicle has proved reliable for the last 60k miles, what makes you think the rust is going to now cause a problem? is the rust getting worse?
I don't think body rust will affect mechnical components such as rear diff or tranny. Would be a good idea to flush fluids in xfer case and diffs. 3/11/2009 8:30:53 AM |
