with. Its fucking ridiculous for people who are paid up to date and most of the times ahead of their rental contracts, and slum lord assholes who are still renting out to people knowing that they are going out of businesses. I would do the EXACT same thing as this Sheriff in Chicago.

this article made me so Goddamn angry that this is happening to people. Im glad some people are standing up to the man(in this case im referring to sleezy ass landlords).

This is the piece of the puzzle I was missing from the first post. Yes, that sucks.

Pretty cool. I would be furious if my landlord stopped paying his mortgage and I was evicted without notice.

Sounds like the renters just need to move so the sheriff can go back to doing what he is paid to do.

[Edited on March 11, 2009 at 9:49 AM. Reason : I would be mad too. You gotta move though. There is no use staying.]

Good lord, some of the people posting on that site love their soapbox.

This guy's doing the right thing though, and it's awesome that he is standing up for people who probably don't have many options in life.

I never knew it was the Sheriff's responsibility to evict people out of their homes. i thought that was the apt. or housing complex responsibility.

So when the folks are paying their rent or mortgage on time, who responsibility is it to go after the landlords, or banks who sell shady mortgage loans and the buyer is unaware??

Ok, maybe I should watch CNN for that answer, but I am curious as to what you guys have to say on this...?

This happened to me once. The sheriff didn't show up, but a guy from the bank foreclosure department showed up and was like "WTF are ya'll doing here?"

Then the bank paid us $500 to move out. And we effectively got half a month free because we didn't give the landlord the last month's check but had 2 weeks notice to move. It wasn't so bad under the circumstances.

I like this sheriff.

I can't imagine what I would do if any of my past landlords had stopped paying their bills and I ended up getting evicted because of it. I imagine a house call would be on the list.

"If I can't live at my place, then I'm moving into yours."

REALLY? you though some desk jockeys were in charge of forcibly removing people from their living quarters??? That's not a potential volatile situation, ever
I know you're a dumbass, and all, but damn...even that comment surprises me.

Ask a better question.
Are you asking who goes after the house owner for the mortage payments?
Are you asking what legal recourse tenants in situations like this have, as far as their money?
Are you asking what the tenants can do, in terms of seeing justice?
Or are you asking how to keep all this from happening again?

Landlords get money from tenants.
Mortgage companies/banks get money from landlords.
Mortgage companies/banks make money from interest.

Banks that are forced (by the government) to sell shady loans to people, who have no right owning a house, shouldn't be held responsible. These banks also shouldn't be forced to take TARP money, but they were.

The government also needs to keep out of the business of private industries and citizens lives.
