^^ Not sure if you are serious about Frank Martin or not. Some people hate that dude and think he simply rode the coat tails of Huggins at K-State. I actually think Frank Martin is a pretty good coach and was a damn steal for USC. If Martin can turn USC into a winner, then he will have pulled off what Spurrier did with the football program.

Well after this week I am starting to think about who we should invite to our new Un-Super Conference.

First off there is no doubt we have to have...

NC State
South Carolina
Utah (haven't won a title in the Pac-12 yet)

Then...

Iowa State (last won the Big 8 in basketball in the mid-90s, last football title MVC co-champs 1912)
Ole Miss (finally won a basketball title for the first time since 1982)
Vanderbilt (outside of recent success in basketball not much else)
Baylor (last title was 1994 SWC co-conference football championship)
Minnesota (does their basketball title in the 90s even count in the record books?)
Army (last won the CIC Trophy in 1996, currently on an 11 game losing streak to Navy in football)
Next we can add whoever is the worst performing team in the Ivy League
Then add the worst performing HBCU school
Then we can top it off with Idaho since they are a I-A independent in football who is currently 1-10, and got destroyed by FSU today.

We can call ourselves the Little 12.

The sad part is that if this league really did exist this season, we wouldn't be favored to win it in basketball, or football.

Lets take a look at the unsuper conference standings from a basketball point of view...

NC State-Pretty much been walked all over on Tobacco Road and hasn't beat a ranked team all season. We also lost to NCCU.

#15 Iowa State-6 wins vs ranked teams and beat Iowa and Northern Iowa.

Ole Miss-17-11 (8-7) they have a win vs Mississippi State

Vanderbilt-15-12 (7-8) They beat Missouri who beat NC State and have a win vs Tennessee

Baylor-18-10 (6-9) They have a win over #3 Kentucky

Minnesota-18-11 (7-9) wins vs #11 Ohio Sate, #9 Wisconsin, and #20 Iowa

Army-13-15 (9-8) Lost to Air Force, beat Citadel, went 1-1 vs Navy

South Carolina-10-18 (3-12) Haven't beat a ranked team and lost to Clemson

Utah-18-9 (7-8) They beat BYU

I guess that means the current standings are...

1) Iowa State
2) Minnesota
3) Baylor
4) Ole Miss
5) Vanderbilt
6) Utah
7) NC State
7) Army
8) South Carolina

NC State is better than Army, but Army is tied in the standing with them because Army has a win vs Navy and a winning record in conference. At least they have that to brag about.

^You're right, but when forming a conference you have to invite more than 3 teams. I'm pretty sure that you have to have 7+ teams for it to be considered a conference. Because of recent success I guess Ole Miss and Vanderbilt are the powerhouses of the league.

And when you toss in Idaho, Grambling State (3-20 and swept by Southern), and Columbia (went 0-10 in football) it looks like we actually move up in the standings.

1) Iowa State
2) Minnesota
3) Baylor
4) Ole Miss
5) Vanderbilt
6) Utah
7) NC State
8) Columbia 17-10 (6-4) beat Army and Idaho
9) Army
10) Idaho 12-16 (5-8) Lost to Boise State but beat Idaho State
11) South Carolina
12) Grambling State 3-20 (2-12)

I would also add making a BCS bowl or Final Four to a list of acceptable accomplishments.

Utah did this in FB. Minnesota did it with Clem Haskins (though it got repealed I guess).

Also certain ISU won a Big 12 title with Marcus Fizer/Larry Eustachy.

Wait, nvm, you're going by some new stupid criteria now...

They won a couple of SEC titles and a National Championship in that time. I would think that was common knowledge?

Oh wait, you still think that I'm some Tennessee fan whose nuts you ride or something. Do I have to send you my Facebook or something?

Do you just not read the substance of my posts? I used to be Luigi. I've told you that like 3 times now. Why do you think I'm a Tennessee fan? Link to a post.

The sadder thing is that it will be really sweet when we finally win that conference title, only for it to be a flash in the pan, like Wake or BC's ACC FB title .We'll promptly be back to being State.

All that pent up frustration/heartbreak and yet our enjoyment will be all but a fleeting moment. I guess Phd students can relate to it

Iowa State won the regular season in 2000 and 2001. Hell, the won the Big XII tourney LAST year as well as this year (as well as in 2000 and 1996). They shouldn't have been on the list in the first place.

^Well when forming this fictional unsuper conference I had to take into account football and basketball. Iowa State is the perfect football team for this league. Their list of football championships consists of...

1911 Missouri Valley Conference Co-champions
1912 Missouri Valley Conference Co-champions

^^Not really. My fictitious league is made up of teams that have achieved little to nothing in football, basketball, or both. I think the NCAA requires a minimum of 7 teams in a league to gain an automatic bid to NCAA tournaments. I started this thread in 2009. At that time NC State, Vanderbilt, South Carolina, Ole Miss, DePaul (basketball), and Marquette (Basketball) were all in power conferences and Utah wasn't. Since then Marquette and DePaul have left the power conferences (Big East isn't the same), Utah joined a power conference, and Vanderbilt and Ole Miss have won a basketball title. We just need some of those schools still in there to have a league.

I don't think we're going to win a title in either sport next year, but this is the first time I can remember in the last 10 years being completely confident that we will make the postseason in both sports.

I also think NJIT should be in the unsuper conference if you're willing to include schools with no football team. The men's team had a streak of 54 straight losses (longest by any school ever). This has been a pretty good season and they are in the CIT semi-final tonight, but nothing erases the losses from 2007-2009.

The Big East is not a power conference anymore. They play I-AA football and over the past decade have lost West Virginia, Syracuse, UConn, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Miami, and Pitt. Then they added some teams from some non-power conferences for basketball.
