beast mode that sucker out?? just have several jack stands under the car and go nutz with the pry bar.
on my yotas, those damn c-clips have been a real pain in the ass, quinn's honda on the other hand was like taking candy from a baby

The driver's side has a c-clip. Seriously, sometimes it won't come out for the love of God, and you need to put a big damn prybar on it. If you can use two, so the pressure isn't so much on one side, then it makes it easier. But there's not a whole lot of room for two sometimes.
And if you're using anything less than 18-24" then you need to drop back five and punt. That lil shit ain't gonna do it. Hoss bar. Hell I've used 3' ones before. 3/13/2009 12:13:21 AM |

I've got a 5 foot pry bar I use for this. If it has enough of a wedge shape you can hammer it in for more leverage(being careful not to hit the splines). Once it's caught, beat it from the side with a sledge hammer.
On some transaxles, the "suggested" way is to remove the passenger side, slide a long round bar all the way through and beat it head on. I've never tried it. 3/13/2009 12:23:44 AM |

Well...you also undid my axle nut with 10 ft lbs max of torque.... My hatch has....been around the block so to speak

exactly. this is KEY. if you're loading the shaft to the left/right/up/down too much you're just helping the c-clip do its job better.
i've also had luck sticking a broom/mop handle or a length of copper pipe through the open side and beating it out. you could use something made of steel also if you know you're replacing the shaft and don't care about any damage to it.3/13/2009 1:58:19 PM |

im back under the car after months of rain
i have decided my tools arent going to get this thing out
ive ripped the end off my pry bar and theres no access to the end of the axle from inside the tranny
there's something in the way so i dont think trying to bang it out would work
also im fairly sure the two prybar trick isnt going to work unless the motor is out of the car
i am about to just put the two pieces of this axle (the boot nearest the tranny is cut) back together and bolt everything up and drive it somewhere
PS when I spin the drivers side forward the passenger side spins backward...normal or gas+match time?

totally normal for an open differential. google up the picture/diagram of a carrier with all the gears in it, and you'll understand why.

he also said it couldnt be pryed out...the axle has to be pushed all the way in and then snapped out

when I was doing my yota, I just pushed the axle as far into the transmission as I could by hand, then just would whack it out/pry it out as suddenly as I could to get some momentum to overcome the c-clip
probably took me a solid 30mins on the first axle.....second axle I understood the nature of the situation and just beasted that bastard out in 5mins
