village draft house - bar food - 7/10 lots of smoke and food isn't all that. ribs really fell off
miami subs - greekish sub place with fish - 6/10 food isnt very good for the price but decent change of pace compared to most fast food
subway - 7/10 (8.5/10 for the one on hillsborough st) often too salty

shiny diner - 7.5/10 haven't been there in a while but it was pretty good
the burrough - 9/10 excellent food, drinks, and service - often smokey
carolina ale house - 9.5/10 - better in every way than draft house
ruckus - 7/10 - with proper entertainment it's tolerable but often it's smokers paradise. decent food

what you say?? IMO the food at ale house isn't all that. Their menu is more extensive than VDH but most of the stuff I've had has just been meh. The new side of the draft house isn't smoky in the slightest, also. Not to mention proximity...if you're close to campus, as I am, it's much easier to drive to cameron village than it is to go all the way out to Wake Forest Rd. or Crossroads to get to an Ale House.

Moving along, Denny's is also an option. Yeah, far away, but much better food than IHOP or Waffle House in the 24 hour diner-like arena.

carolina ale house is franchised shit

the food is mediocre at best, the beer selection and prices are pathetic for a so called 'ale house'
