It really makes me sad when the kids in the ESL classes see me walk in and get excited because they think I speak Spanish.

Or when I went to the courthouse last week and a young couple rushed over to me speaking spanish rapidly because I assume they needed help and thought I could translate.

I can't help you. It took me 4 semesters to get through 101, 3 semesters to get through 102 (finally did at NC State), and then I got a D- in 201. Had I finished in 3 semesters I would have graduated by now.

Not really. I had never taken Spanish before college except for one semester in middle school that I failed. I took 101 and 102 at Wake Tech. They are crazy over there. They make you go to foreign language classes 5 days a week. You have 2 quizes per chapter in Spanish, tons of homework due the next day, multiple projects, and presentations. At first they made students take tests that covered 2 chapters, but the drop out rate was so high that they changed it to one chapter per test. At NC State you go 2, or 3 times a week and have about 3 quizes the entire semester. There is less homework, less tests, and one presentation. You actually get a few seconds to think and learn, so you can prepare for the tests.

^Not really. You learn the same amount of stuff at both places. NC State just chooses to not stress out their students. I took a lot of math classes at Wake Tech that also were 5 days a week. Thoses were a little easier to me though. Spanish was the toughest class I have ever taken anywhere.
