up my yard. I don't know what else to do. Our dog digs up a huge patch in the middle of our yard. I've recovered it. Then I tried putting stuff on top of the spot where she digs. She just tunnels under whatever I lay on top of it. I even tried sprinkling cayenne pepper on top of the spots where she digs. She still digs in the same spots. I thought maybe she was bored while I was gone to work. I only work 3 or so hours a day away from home, but I still thought those three hours she may be bored. So, I bought her a bunch of toys of different variety. She has a frisbee, several tennis balls, squeaky toys, a kong ball, a rope bone, and a couple of stuffed animals. She still digs. I also spend lots of time with her while I'm home. Any ideas?

Dogs dig naturally. If your dog isn't bored or too hot or trying to hide something, etc. . .it's going to be hard to stop it. You could try putting wire down under the dirt when you refill the hole, but the dog will probably just find another place to dig. I'd just get the dog a dig box (sandbox) and encourage the dog to dig there by hiding toys, bones, treats, etc in it.

using bitter sprays helped me get my mom's dogs to stop from digging up her rosebushes

I had a Great Dane that liked to dig when I was younger (when a Great Dane digs up the yard, it looks like someone came in with a backhoe). We finally solved the problem by buying dozens of mousetraps and putting them in the places he liked to dig (he seemed to always pick the same places to dig).

mine dig in my backyard b/c they're chasing moles. i'm going to put down grub killer sometime this week to fix the problem (moles eat grubs). it's worth a shot.

Once it's started you can't totally stop it. The options are either nip it in the bud when they're young and just beginning, or give them their own sand box and teach them to use that. However, you can lessen it by exercising your dog more. It sounds like a big problem might be her being bored, and toys strewn about the yard aren't going to help with that. You need to either physically exhaust her by jogging her before you go to work, or mentally exhaust her with training exercises before you go to work. This ought to reduce the digging, but I would still advise at getting her a sand box.
