what does that do to X. Henry, D. Cousins and J. Wall? 3/27/2009 12:54:00 PM |

no....he'll continue to stay at a smaller conference school so he doesn't have to face a real conference's academic restrictions and keep a team full of 23-25 year olds. 3/27/2009 12:59:26 PM |

Surely at some point he'll realize that beating up on UAB and Tulsa all season doesn't prepare your team very well for the tourney. He's gotta make the jump eventually, he'll never win it at Memphis. 3/27/2009 1:02:29 PM |

That's kind of a stretch to definitively say that, especially considering he was 1/4" away from winning it all last year... 3/27/2009 1:08:44 PM |

that's a ridiculous statement though.
He's got just as good a chance to win it all at Memphis as anywhere else. 3/27/2009 1:09:20 PM |

When you graduate HS in AZ they give you an Admission letter to ASU with your diploma. He wouldn't fit at Cal, UW, Stanford, or UCLA, but he'd be a great fit at UofA.3/27/2009 1:09:20 PM |

People act like Calipari is interested in beating up on weaker opponents and looking successful. He's looking for the most amount of money. He'd watch paint dry if it paid him 4M a year. I'm guessing Arizona will for over at least 3. The Pac X has Howland and Sendek, by far the easiest of the power conferences (yea I know, the SEC will get back once Kentucky gets back on track) 3/27/2009 1:09:53 PM |

I just don't see him completely starting over at UofA after everything he's done at Memphis. And his base salary is like 3.5 M guaranteed, about 3 times that of any other PAC 10 coach. 3/27/2009 1:13:58 PM |

Quote : | "First of all, let me say that Calipari would be great news IF he were to decide to leave Memphis and coach at the UofA next season. BUT I have a couple remarks/concerns with Mr. Calipari.
1. I've heard from numerous people that he is quite sly when it comes to recruiting. I've said many times myself there's no way he should be able to sign the recruits he does. It just doesn't make sense. His '09 class is probably the best class I have EVER seen, and John Wall released a statement a couple weeks ago that Memphis is his leader. If he were to sign this would be the class:
Xavier Henry (#1 sg) John Wall (#1 pg) Demarcus Cousins (#2 c) 2 x 90+ JC transfers
...now how is a team in the C-USA pulling that kinda talent. I just don't want him to come to UA and give the school a bad rap for his tactics. Thats the main point.
2. He signs this talent, but if all these all-american caliber players were to come to the UA, we would have a ton of 1-and-dones. This is my main concern. I think it would hurt UA more than help them if kids were coming to UA to play one year, only to leave after a season. We need stability. More than ever.
Again...I'm not saying signing Calipari would be a bad move, it wouldn't. I just hope he will be able to bring this program back to the top. I'm tired of sitting infront of my t.v. on selection sunday uneasy about getting into the big dance. I'm tired of ASU fans tearing us a new one, because we can't beat a team that we have dominated over the last 20 years. UA is one of the top basketball programs in the nation, but lately our faces have been smacked around. This needs to change. Bear down Livingood?" |

imo i don't think there's anyway cal leaves memphis.
he's got it too good there - recruits basically knocking down his door to go there, lax academic standards, basically guaranteed a tournament bid, and loads of dough 3/27/2009 2:23:19 PM |

you have to look at it from a coach's point of view, not from your point of view, which is 'easy job w/ tons of money, sign me the fuck up'.
if calipari wanted a stress free job, he'd retire, he's probably got enough money. more than likely calipari wants to win, and wants to be respected as a coach.
and don't forget, it's not like arizona wouldn't be a sweet deal.
oh and i almost forgot, do not think that recruits are begging to come to memphis. calipari works his ass off recruiting.

Wall would maybe go to state if Cal left for UA, but I think he'd follow him to Kentucky. Cousins will probably follow him where ever he goes. Not sure about Henry, but Henry would go to Kentucky I'd imagine... maybe Kansas if Cal leaves? 3/27/2009 2:28:21 PM |

I don't think there's any way that Wall would go to UofA, he'd have to fly/drive across the country to see his ailing mom. Memphis isn't a bad drive from Raleigh.3/27/2009 2:30:51 PM |
