My lil man died today. Came home to let the pup out and found him at the bottom of his cage. Still warm. God this sucks. He was 19.5 years old and I've had him just as long. Poor baby. RIP Friski

This was one of the last photos I took of him

qntmfred I swear up and down that he lived so long b/c I didn't clip his wings (he got great exercise) and I fed him an organic pellet diet (low fat, high nutrition). He got fresh food for treats and lots of love. This sucks so much

stowaway It seriously is a crappy day. Week. whatever. I was going to go out and take pics this weekend but the rain put a halt to that. And now this.

we haven't clipped our tiels' wings in about a year. but the sad part is they stay in their cage almost all the time now. we used to take them out and let them walk around the couch and sit on our shoulders a lot. too risky now with new ceiling fans and two dogs.

do you have a place they could fly that's protected from the dogs? I always turned the fan off when he was flying and taught my dog not to chase if he did. But then again I really lucked out with my pets and how well they listened. Friski was scared to death to fly out of 'his' room anyway, so I never worried about him getting near the front door.

thanks everyone sad faces all around

Thank you so much everyone. I know I don't really know any of you, but you're giving me an outlet which I really need. I guess a lot of people aren't really fond of birds, but Friski had so much personality. I swear he thought he was a little person. And I had him for more than half my life. That's a long time. He never liked men. I guess he just wanted to be the only one in my life. For years he'd divebomb any guy that came near me. My little attack bird. The rest of the time he had to be near me. Always flew to hang out on my shoulder. Preen my hair. Ask for head scratchies. He even had a song that he whistled just for me. Sigh...

Today, one of my cockatiels, Rocky (aka Rockafella Mcfluffychin) died unexpectedly. He was extremely affectionate, always nuzzling behind my ear and looking for forehead kisses. He was also a great whistling buddy. I will miss you, Rocky.

qntmfred I'm so sorry I had Friski cremated and strangely enough, while I still miss him terribly, its helped give me some closure and put me at a little more ease. I so miss his wolf whistles and kisses.
not dnl, yes 19.5 is old for a cockatiel. Some can live longer, many from what I understand dont.

Thank you so much Sonia. And a belated hug is better than no hug at all!

Rocky, Friski and Chicken Boo...hangin' at the Rainbow Bridge waiting for (and watching over) us!

I think 15-20 is the average lifespan, with 35 being the oldest confirmed case. When you take neglected birds out of the equation (never let out of a cage and / or are meant to be pets for screaming children that harass them), they can live quite long lives.

My boys are sitting at 5 and 3 right now. I can only hope for long happy lives.

My baby girl Chichiri died Saturday at the vet's office.

She was at the vet's office to treat a bound egg. She had been in good shape and the vet had expected a full recovery but Chichi never woke up after she went under.

I adopted her three years ago from MeatStick. She was the sweetest bird I'd ever had and she loved to snuggle and help you with your snacks. I'm going to miss her terribly.

Sad times, and sorries all around.

I had a 'tiel for a while, but I couldn't give him as much attention as he needed so I gave him to a lady who had three others. I like to think he's happy now.

How would it be appropriate to honor a dead dog in a thread about a dead bird that is over half a year old?
