^yea... other than short battery life it was an awesome phone for me. Alltel wanted too much for data though. Now I'm regular phone and a Peek.

bought my first one in september. by christmas the "send" button didn't work. now it overheats and locks up any time i put it in my pocket and sometimes when i don't even do that.

they're 3 month phones from what i can tell

my plan is to keep getting new ones on warranty until september. i'll make the final one last until december. contract runs out it february, so maybe they'll let me renew my contract and get the upgrade 2 months early.

[Edited on April 1, 2009 at 9:34 PM. Reason : plan]

[Edited on April 1, 2009 at 9:40 PM. Reason : that peek looks cool, but i like to check my tww pms on my phone ]

i have nothing but praise for their cheap ass phone, the hue. the camera is pretty good, and ive dropped mine into a bucket of water twice now and it has survived. the bluetooth being disabled is a bunch of bullshit though.

[Edited on April 2, 2009 at 12:47 AM. Reason : please get verizon phones asap, you piece of shit alltel]

what in the world are you doing to them? The sprint 6800 from close to launch is still chuggin... Does alltel use the new RevA firmware?

i don't know a damn thing about the firmware on the thing.

every problem i've had has been a hardware issue. button quit working, overheating, and broken bluetooth hardware. the first two developed over time. the bluetooth problem existed on the refurb straight out of the box.

i think i'm tough on them. it stays in my pocket at work, fishing, whatever and gets beat around a lot.

it's not really that big of a deal. i'll just keep getting them to send me more and when the warranty runs out i'll upgrade to something else.

opinions on the htc touch pro, palm treo pro, blackberry curve, moto Q 9c, or anything else alltel offers i overlooked?

Sprint claims the touch pro fixes all the shortcomings of the 6800 (battery life, downlink speed for tethering) and adds one baller looking interface. Treo Pro are just like other treo's - practically bulletproof with a keyboard for midgets and children + piss poor network speeds. Q9C (to me) is an awesome phone. Some can't live without the touch screen, I like it better without the touch. Plus a few easy looking hacks can add some serious functionality increases (such as allocating more ram to the os pepping things up and enabling hardware GPS to get 'yo fix faster.) BB is BB, they're always amazing, but you can't tether for free. Sad.

[Edited on April 6, 2009 at 12:09 PM. Reason : my main thing is i want the full, desktop-appearing, internet, which i get w/ skyfire on my 6800]

ok, so tethering is just using your cell phone's data service to get an internet connection on your computer?

i do that all the time and would require it on any phone i get. blackberry is out.

Just FYI: Alltel's version of the 6800 can and does indeed use EVDO-Rev A here in the Triangle...and I am not using a cooked ROM or special PRL...I got tired of hackin' the damn thing so I just use the stock WinMo 6.1 ROM. I have had very few issues with my 6800. Battery Life and not enough RAM are my 2 biggest peeves...I do love being able to sync up all of my work & personal contacts via Google Sync.

^ I dunno brother and I wish ya had better luck as I have found the 6800 to be a decent smartphone overall. Sure it has its quirks but I am glad I have it everyday at work when I have to either pull up an xls, pdf or doc file. No phone is perfect but I am happy with my 6800. And I also use it to tether to my laptop as a modem as the broadband here at Sumter Square is marginal at best.
I wish ya better luck with your next phone

program?

I just use my computer's default bluetooth connection manager, connect, and that's it. nothing special.

alltel has never said anything to me.

There are 2 programs for WinMo that I'm aware of to mask tethering. They basically translate data requests from your laptop into data requests from the handset (which you're already paying for). Sprint and Verizon can be really picky because they charge an extra $30/month to have the feature.

USBModem and I think the other is PDANet.

interesting. I just thought tethering was free - what's the point in charging extra? you already get the data for free, all you need is login information...
