Quote :
"At first glance, Liam Hoekstra looks like your typical toddler. At 3 years old and 30 pounds, he sports a mop of curly brown hair and a mischievous smile. But hand the boy a pair of dumbbells and it is immediately clear that there is something special about him. With 40 percent more muscle mass than the average person and exceptional strength, agility and speed, Liam is a real-life Bam Bam Rubble.

No, Liam hasn't been working out -- he was born with a genetic condition called myostatin-related muscle hypertrophy. In essence, his muscle cells reject the protein myostatin, which results in above-average muscle development, a super-fast metabolism and virtually no body fat."

He's actually a chimpanzee. At full growth he'll be 5x as strong as a human.

he's not the first. Hell, Belgian Blue cattle were bred to have this characteristic centuries ago.

However, we're living in an age where genetic doping is very real, and having an actual person born with these genetics will make it a lot easier for scientists to delevop drugs or viruses to cause this effect in people that could benefit from mystatin deficiency, such as kids with muscular dystrophy or wasting disease.

Then again, I wouldn't be surprised if the Chinese weren't already doing this for the last Olympics. Considering how their female weightlifting team annihilated the competition and a few world records last summer.

it makes the kidneys and liver smaller while making the body bigger, so it overstresses these organs and makes them more likely to fail at an earlier age. I remember reading one time about what it would do to the heart as well, but I can't remember what. I want to say that it makes the heart enlarged and more prone to leaky valves, but I'm not sure.

^^I'm sure the writer of that article is an expert on the subject.

Meanwhile, medical journals are reporting that myostatin deficiencies cause weak, brittle tendons and a reduction in the size of almost all other organs.

http://genome.cshlp.org/content/7/9/910.full

Quote :
"The increase in body weight of double-muscled cattle cannot be totally accounted for by an increase in muscle mass alone, as the weight of the skin, adipose and bone content, alimentary tract, and most other internal organs is reduced in double-muscled cattle."

If this kid is predispositioned to have weak ACLs, then it sounds like this kid will be a shoe-in for a NC State running back.
