I was looking forward to some yellow squash later this season Guess I'll have to plant more seeds.

Good thing it was squash, though. Squash is so fucking easy to grow, and so prolific, that a few casualties shouldn't hurt your harvest....
Perhaps you should've built a raised bed to discourage such uninvited guests. (or did you?)

They're planted in pots because I'm growing them on my apartment balcony The zucchini seems to be doing alright. Maybe the marigolds I planted with them are doing their job.

marigolds protect against dagger nematodes, not sure about grubs. why are you using "dirt" instead of a sterilized potting medium?

hah, there are horticulturists everywhere, i dont believe that it isnt available

but in the future, you can autoclave your own potting medium at home in the microwave or in the oven.

I just buy what comes in bags at the store and is marked as good for veggies

just moisten it, put it in the oven with a thermometer. the internal temp needs to be 180 degrees for 20 minutes to kill most life.
