Quote :
"WASILLA -- Todd Palin's half-sister was arrested Thursday after police say she broke into a Wasilla home to steal money for the second time this week but ended up getting caught by the armed homeowner. The woman's 4-year-old daughter was nearby, police said.

Police arrested 35-year-old Diana Palin at a house on West Mill Site Circle near Wasilla's Multi-Use Sports Complex.

Homeowner Theodore Turcott told police an unfamiliar gray 1993 Toyota Camry pulled into his driveway Thursday morning, according to a affidavit filed Friday at the Palmer courthouse. Turcott told police he'd been burglarized twice recently: Someone stole $2,200 on March 26, leaving $400 behind, and after another apparent break-in Tuesday, all but $9 was gone.

So, Turcott told police, when he didn't recognize the woman getting out of the Camry, he grabbed a gun and hid in the bathroom to see what would happen, said Wasilla police Deputy Chief Greg Wood.

Palin made straight for the bedroom cabinet where Turcott kept his cash, Wood said.

Turcott confronted her, detaining her until police arrived, he said.

But before officers got there, Palin's 4-year-old daughter came into the house, the prosecutor handling the case said during a Palmer District Court hearing Friday.

"There was a significant safety issue regarding this 4-year-old child," prosecutor Mike Walsh told Judge John Wolfe.

The girl told police she'd been to the house a couple of days earlier, the affidavit stated. Palin, however, said she had never been there before, and mistakenly thought it was a friend's house.

And to think that this felon could have had access to the white house makes me glad America made the right choice last November

You made a thread about Sarah Palin's husband's half-sister? Really? Who gives a shit?

Go back to chit chat and stand there with your face in a corner.

And once again, gunzz power trips with his "I'm wrong but I've still got righteous anger" attitude when someone calls him out.

Dude, face it, this thread is useless. It reeks of celebrity-culture bullshit and National Inquirer-esque tabloid following. Palin is a failed VP candidate whose family failings were amusing to mock for a while (especially given some of her political stances), but she's done now. Caring about what she herself does is akin to watching E! and seeing Britney Spears spiral into insanity. The idea that anyone should care about what her half-sister-in-law does is simply an absurdity and does not belong here (or anywhere, for that mater).

As for that last bit, Obama is president (far more prominent a position than failed-veep), and even if it HAD been his half-brother there would have been at least a few people calling you out on it not belonging.

So... if I were to make a worthless thread that obviously doesn't belong in a section, I could use this argument and all would be well?

Or is that a right reserved for you?

This isn't chit chat, dude. This thread deserves a lock, might as well save face and do it yourself.

this actually deserves a move to chit chat if that moderator deems necessary
but good job thinking you understand how moderation works

why doesnt this belong smart guy? The woman who almost became VPOTUS has a sis-n-law who takes children on criminal adventures .... this falls in the guidelines of this section...

and since you seem to think you know things...."might as well save face and do it yourself."
only moderators of assigned sections can move threads out of said section

now back on topic

even though she is a half sister i could only imagine what the rest of their family is thinking with Easter right around the corner.

I wonder if social services will be stepping in since this isnt the first time she took her child with her on these criminal escapades.

So... are you saying this is politics because you've got "three degrees of separation" to a political figure? Because saying something like that would be stupid.

It's not really a social issue unless you're trying to draw some broader conclusions about this case... say, for example, arguing whether she was arrested under a just law, or some such thing (which no one is doing... so we can rule that one out)

It's obviously not financials.

It's technically "anything serious", yes, but it's also serious if I cut my arm off with a hacksaw... but that wouldn't exactly be something to post in TSB. Palin's half-sister-in-law getting arrested has no social relevance at all, unless you're the kind of person who thinks that tabloids are a source of consistent social relevance.

Quote :
"only moderators of assigned sections can move threads out of said section"

Ah, how informative. I figured that if a mod from one section can suspend someone for a post in another section (it's happened from time to time), they could move or lock threads in other sections as well. Also, I figured when a mod makes a thread he'd have some power over it. But whatever.

Quote :
"but good job thinking you understand how moderation works"

How exactly was I supposed to have any prior knowledge of that? Furthermore how does it have any relevance to the fact that this thread doesn't belong here and someone should move and/or lock it?

-----------

Also, here's a fun bit of irony... now that this thread has generated a discussion about what sorts of news can/should be considered politically or socially relevant, it actually does sort of belong in this section.

more like one degree since surely Palin knows and see's her husbands half-sister at family functions.

This is funny though maybe had Palin taken all her bailout money she could have beefed up unemployment enough to discourage her half-sister in law to not resort to crime.

^^ the only reason that made the news is because he is obama's half brother.

kenya? really? i bet 90% of people do at least some drug over there....

and now this woman makes news because she is palin's husband's half sister. if her last name was not palin, no one would care. glad she was caught. her kid(s) should be taken away from her.

OEP, I'm gonna have to call bullshit on you this time. I know you're generally a smart guy, so please try to do some basic research before making such an outlandish claim.

Check http://www.unodc.org/pdf/WDR_2006/wdr2006_chap6_consumption.pdf (UN Office on Drugs and Crime) for usage rates of various classes of drugs in countries around the world. Compared to other drugs, cannabis use has the highest prevalence in most African countries by far, but only four African states have cannabis usage rates over 10%. Kenya is listed at 4%. Unless you're counting folk remedies and pharmaceuticals as drugs when you make those kinds of statements, 90% is absolutely absurd.

If you want an easier-to-read reference that sources from mostly the same data, check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_prevalence_of_cannabis_abuse just for cannabis figures. You'll notice that Canada is higher than all but two African nations, and the US is higher than all but four. Yes, there are some underdeveloped countries near the top of the list, but there are also some highly-developed first-world countries there.
