What the hell is wrong with Raleigh?

Why do people keep calling the North Hills area 'Midtown'. It's a freaking outdoor shopping plaza like every other American city has in the past 5 years. THAT'S IT! Complete with a Starbucks and Panera across the street....it's all of a sudden dubbed 'Midtown'.

OK, so they build another outdoor shopping area across the street with those trendy apartments on top. How does this create a 'midtown' exactly? Where are the free form shops, bars, clubs, restaurants, and other stuff to constitute that moniker exactly?

Actually, theyve built a whole subdivision of houses and townhouses on the other side of the beltline and had plans for a pedestrian bridge that, I believe, fell through. Also, there's a good sized very high end apartment building going up behind the Alexan. And I don't remember all the plans for across the street except that they plan to make that whole intersection on Six Forks a raised pedestrian crossing area.
