4/14/2009 9:04:50 PM
coolest thing I've seen in a while.
4/14/2009 9:12:18 PM
even cooler? the Cosmological Horizon...the fact the universe we can observe is only as big as what we can see...there are galaxies out there that are so far away their light hasn't reached us.in fact, it is theorized that the universe contained within our Cosmological Horizon is about the size of a quarter on the face of the earth[Edited on April 14, 2009 at 9:28 PM. If you could put a zoom-in function so that we could see the Shawn Johnson pics, that would be great.

Makes life precious and worthless at the same time based on your perspective scale. I lean more towards the precious and would rather stare in awe at it.I am most intrigued by the fact that when viewed at a scale large enough to see a chunk of space everything appears to repeat itself. Atomic and lattice structures etc. And despite all the hoopla about dark matter and dark energy, looking at it makes sense again to simply think of opposite forces. Electron/Positron - Gravity/Anti-gravity. Forces like this would be "dark" since it would repulse light and fit the bill. Sadly I don't think in any of our lifetimes we will ever understand enough of it to create a unified field theory simply because we are still boggling ourselves with how big it is; the farther we look the more we find. The more we find the more current laws we break.

you tease us with that title and then post pictures to prove how big uranus is?

4/20/2009 10:31:27 PM
Meh, any time I see a picture like that, I realize that I might live in a small part of the universe, but I don't feel insignificant because it's the only important part we know about.Does an oasis feel insignificant compared to the desert surrounding it?[Edited on April 20, 2009 at 10:52 PM. I don't feel insignificant...However, that was an interesting picture.
4/20/2009 11:06:16 PM
mindfucked.....i don't think i can even comprehend the size of VY Canis Majoris
4/20/2009 11:09:34 PM
to me, anything bigger than a good-sized mountain is just BIG, and might as well be infinite.kinda like all numbers bigger than 5,000 start to look the same.
4/20/2009 11:12:24 PM
would have been better with less assy pictures of the planets and galaxies

Pure bunk. The universe is only 5000 years old.

If you're doing the YEC thang, you're still off by 1000 years.
4/21/2009 12:18:15 AM
I just looked up VY Canis Majoris and it is pretty damn amazing. I had never heard of it before now.
4/21/2009 12:18:20 AM

Hamilton theory of infinite scale. Every item no matter how large or small part of something much larger on a completely different scale of reference. That being said.... I bet the LHC Is causing some crazy genocide in a microscopic scale.
