I've never had a pet to die. What do I need to do with the body?
4/16/2009 5:51:37 PM
bury it?do people not just bury pets in the backyard anymore?Or do you live in an apartment/townhouse?
4/16/2009 5:52:14 PM
I have a house, but I don't want any other animal digging up the remains.
4/16/2009 5:52:42 PM
the vet will take it for a disposal fee
4/16/2009 5:52:55 PM
Take it to a vet's office, I think they usually do something with local animal graveyards. They might charge you on that, though... I dunno.
4/16/2009 5:53:37 PM
But seriously, sorry for your loss. ]
4/16/2009 5:54:15 PM
This is a picture of him. The one facing more towards the camera. (picture is from several years ago.)
4/16/2009 5:55:24 PM
he was hit by a car this afternoon.
4/16/2009 5:55:46 PM
sorry about your cat
4/16/2009 5:56:06 PM
If you don't want to take it to the vets office to have it cremated or disposed of, you can put it in a tupperware container and bury it in your yard.
4/16/2009 5:56:17 PM
i thought you hated catsdid you kill it?
4/16/2009 5:58:57 PM
4/16/2009 5:59:14 PM
you can donate the body to the vet for dissecting and studies,
4/16/2009 5:59:47 PM
4/16/2009 6:04:54 PM
don't I remember you trying to get rid of your cats since you got a gf who was allergic? And thus why they became outdoor cats and thus got ran over....
4/16/2009 6:22:28 PM
lord, just throw it in the garbage
4/16/2009 6:23:04 PM
4/16/2009 6:24:03 PM
if you bury it, put it in a couple plastic kitchen bags (basically try to keep any smell from being able to escape) and dig the hole at least 4-5 feet deep
4/16/2009 6:28:41 PM
was this the guy that was stuck in the tree?sorry man
4/16/2009 6:29:30 PM
sell it to a chinese restaurant
4/16/2009 6:31:29 PM
just dont touch it until rigor mortis has run its course, cause thats a feeling you dont forget.
4/16/2009 6:33:07 PM
i gave a parakeet a viking funeral at lake johnson once... it was so awesome. actually it was kind of a first date with someone, too. definitely not your mundane dinner and a movie bullshit.
4/16/2009 6:35:26 PM
he was across the street... I got him and took his collar off... it was a very odd feeling.

4/16/2009 6:48:41 PM
I've decided I'm going to bury him underneath his "favorite" tree.
4/16/2009 7:08:13 PM
i'm just waiting for some jerk to post "haha. dudes aren't supposed to own cats anyways! what are you, some kind of homo?"
4/16/2009 7:14:22 PM
4/16/2009 7:15:48 PM
yeah, to be honest i didn't think i'd be as upset as i am about the little guy. I showed Sanchez (my other cat) Rocco's body, and he sat by him for a good amount of time... he cuddled up with his collar that I had sitting in the chair on my porch. I know I'm personifying them, and they are only animals, but they truly did act like brothers... they groomed each other and cuddled on a daily basis.
4/16/2009 7:18:19 PM
Is this Sanchez/Focker?[Edited on April 16, 2009 at 7:20 PM. Reason : nmmmm, previous post]

We used to have two really awesome but HUGE cats (regular ol' housecats I suppose but they were gigantic), Calvin and Hobbes. They were brothers and lived together their entire lives, sleeping together and grooming each other when they were cool, and destroying the house in epic battles when they got into it. They each loved us as much as any good cat does, but it was evident they were two of a kind and ultimately their loyalties lied with eachother. Hobbes' health started failing when they were 12 or so, and he died when he was 14. Calvin had no signs of any significant health issues, but when Hobbes died he became completely unresponsive and died the next week. All that is to say that I don't think it's unrealistic to personify cats, they may not be the brightest animals but they're not emotionless.

At the vet clinic where I work we offer a few options. Cremation - Individual with or Communal without ashes returned & instead sprinkled on a section set aside of some farm land of someone connected to the people who do the cremation. There is always home burial if that is something you can arrange, and I think there are a few pet cemeteries in the triangle area.just finished reading the thread & saw you decided on home burial which usually has the most personal significance. [Edited on April 16, 2009 at 7:30 PM. Reason : sorry about your cat]

I'm sorry about your kitty Mine died earlier this year, I am still crushed
4/16/2009 7:30:44 PM
This may be a weird question but why did you take the cats collar off? Are you planning on using it again in the future?
4/16/2009 7:32:45 PM
I took it off to remember him by. My family has done the same in the past with dogs.
4/16/2009 7:39:24 PM
I buried him under the tree he was stuck in a couple of months ago.

4/16/2009 9:08:44 PM
^^ lol, but no.
4/16/2009 9:10:11 PM
we have our pets cremated and get a nice urn and drape the collar over it. put it on a shelf with a pic & a footprint next to it.
4/16/2009 9:16:16 PM
Once I met a chick that kept her dead cat in a plastic bag in the freezer until she could buy a house at which to bury it. (She lived in an apt.)
4/16/2009 9:17:33 PM
My cousin's dog died while he was in Iraq and they kept the dog in the freezer until he returned home to bury it.
4/16/2009 9:20:23 PM
^^ she really should have just had the thing cremated.[Edited on April 16, 2009 at 9:20 PM. Reason : another ^]
