Need some exhaust work done cheap. It should be pretty simple from the looks of it. I just want to go some place priced decent without complete morons.
...Or if I just cut all the tubes myself and mark lines where I want them to line up can someone on here do it (zxappeal)?
I think the piping is mild steel but the muffler is stainless. 4/19/2009 4:58:34 PM |

Henry's is a great place to go.
The one on Capitol closer to down town is where Henry works. The one near Atlantic is where Donald works. They are the guys who do the best work. 4/19/2009 10:39:35 PM |

RJ's custom piping behind the Carmax on Capital is better than Henry's or Bob's. He does things the right way plus he actually has a mandrel bender, which none of those other places have. 4/20/2009 7:13:50 PM |

i would jump in here and say ronnie isn't that cheap.. but everyone i've talked to that went there wanted mandrel bent stainless or aluminum (exhaust or ic piping).. so i guess it is all relative. his prices have come down a little (from what i can tell) since he first opened up (on new bern)
that said, he is who i will be taking my project car to when it comes time for exhaust (very soon)

Ok so 3-5 week update.
I got the cheapest cat they had so I could pass visual inspection (obd-1). They fabricated it so I could bolt my "test pipe" in its place. Did a good job. Problem is my car ran so rich in the high RPM vacuum regions that i destroyed that cat already! We dont need arghx to tell us what map sensor column you trace when you close throttle plate between gear shifts. I still thought it would survive more than 3 weeks! They also replaced 2 bolts with standard sized heads. I have nothing but metric tools. This is a japanese car. Service was decent, but the guys seemed to hate their 'careers'. I would go again.

What are your fuel trims right now? The deceleration fuel cut is enabled (I don't even know if you can turn it off with what software you have)? TPS is calibrated to 20% when the throttle is closed?

I'm guessing here that the bolts don't have little numbers engraved in the side advertising that they are standard, and Quinn discovered this incompatibility when the sizes you posted (and plenty in between) didn't work. But thanks for saving the day again 5/28/2009 9:28:09 AM |

uhm.. it should be pretty obvious since you said high rpm and vacuum that it would be in the vacuum region as far as the map sensor reading, probably in the high rpm portion of the fuel map...
is this an s2k? stock fuel management?
obd1 shouldnt be a problem passing visual inspection get to work*..

NO (@*$ING @&*@!
Sockets I use are 12mm 10mm 14mm and 17mm all of which did not fit. I use a 19mm (tire iron on a honda) on rare occasion (read : crank pulley bolt and front engine mounts).
The screw driver was replaced with a jack handle and may or may not have punched out the insides.
ECU management is a chipped OBD-1 ECU running free software.
I would assume fuel cut is disabled as i go 23 on the wideband during any and all engine braking.

installing two magnaflow mufflers at Henry's as well as two nice ass stainless steel exhaust tips...
each tip they said is $50 = $100
not even sure how much the mufflers are...should be around $260 but getting everything done for $340 out the door.
is that a good price? are magnaflows good?

The mufflers are $80-$120 a piece. The tips are that expensive, even on ebay, in a lot of cases.
All in all, not a terrible deal. 9/21/2009 8:33:58 PM |
