is this really new news? there are some good cops and some bad cops
4/22/2009 12:29:05 PM
yeh, heard about this last night. not sure what exactly occurred though. cnn was saying last night something about the cop having the right to ask the reporter to leave for some safety issue or something, then the reporter refused so the cop took'em down. ^when you dont watch television, everything gets the same amount of coverage...think about it

it seems like that policeman's time could have been better spent attending to the accident.

man i'm glad that cop's get these dangerous people off of the streets..... What I want to know is if you aren't being put under arrest, does the cop have the right to put his hands on you like he did the reporter when he was telling him to leave. He had him by the back of his pants and his arm but he wasn't under arrest at that point.

i feel the cop in the original video really over stepped his bounds. Despite what happened before the video, which we can't determine, the reporter was walking away toward the car and then the officer chased him down. The officer then proceeded to tell the reporter he could leave and when the reporter said okay thank you the cop decided he wished to extract the respect he felt he deserved by any means possible. Through all of this the cop was largely physically aggressive although the reporter posed no imminent threat. As if this was not enough the cop chose to then arrest the camera man who had been long removed from the crime scene and was back at the car. If cops would actually punish these officers and make examples of them when they perform such misdeeds and treat them as an anathema then the public would not hold the mentality that these actions are acceptable and would rather view it as an aberration and not equate all officers with such a poor standing. Given the law's unwillingness to impose such punishments they are, by consequence, largely responsible, still, for the negative stereotype that proceeds them.

i, too, am aware that some government employees are jerks

Skaters can be pretty fuckin' annoying anyway so they can just call it even. Serisously though, after years of dealing with some of the most useless elements of society I'd probably be a dick too.

I really don't see how you can make conclusions with only a part of the the video. Man there his been a ton of anti-Five Oh sentiment on here lately.

did the cop get his priorities fucked up and take it too far? yes. did the reporter disobey an officer of the law at the scene of an accident? yes.and then for the cameraman to sit there and watch him get cuffed without expecting to get cuffed himself is just stupid.

The cop certainly looked like he was abusing his authority, and it was a bit much to change his mind and arrest the guys after they said they were going to leave. That said, we weren't shown any footage from before this incident, so for all we know the reporter was acting way over the line.
