So I went to automotive training at Wake Tech from 1998 to 2000 and wasn't getting anywhere in that career, so when I lost my job in the spring of 2001 I went back to college. I dropped and failed Spanish multiple times, dropped math classes, and have gone part time some semesters by choice. The other day in 491t I got called out when I said Mt St. Helens erupted 4 days after I was born. Everyone started asking me if I was getting married soon, and some people laughed at me. Most people thought I was in my early 20's. Has anyone else ever gone through this as an undergrad, or am I just an outcast?

graduating in 2 weeks. i was in the class of 2000, but i took 4 years off traveling and what not. i feel old as dirt, but at least i am getting done. the receding hairline doesn't help either, and neither does the fact that jobs are nowhere to be found right now.

I was 23 last May. Theoretically with my AP credits and if I did not do my Co-Ops i could have graduated at 21 after 7 semesters.

A friend of mine whose 27 is actually graduating in two weeks from UNCW. After spending 4 years as a MP in the Air Force; he not only went to college at 23 but fully integrated/reformed himself acting like any other right out of high school undergrad. Joined a frat, parties, hooks up with young college sluts, bars several times a week; basically the complete opposite of what you'd picture a military MP like. His younger brother (23) goes to UNCW also and just from meeting the two you'd guess the younger was the oldest. Unless he tells them no one ever guess he's some old late 20's undergrad.

Guess it is all what you make of it being back in college. Although I supposed if you go back to school with a wife or kid you really do not have the flexibility to live the "full" college lifestyle and to fit in with all the other students.

I was 23. Took a year off in between high school and college. I'm originally from Maryland. Spent the year at the beach in NC. Got in-state tuition as result.

I'll be 23 next year, feeling old as shit. 5 year plan because the co-op kicked me around a bit.

i was 28 when i graduated last year. 10 year plan, most of it part-time while i worked full-time.

also, i fail to see how your age when you graduate matters worth a damn. you graduated, didn't you? be happy that you earned the degree, and move on. age doesn't matter when it comes to getting educated.

i was 23, i started out in mathematics and was thinking about adding a major in engineering, but it just never seemed like i was interested in the stuff, and only did enough to get by with B's and a few C's

I switched to Economics and made Dean's list 4 out of my last 5 semesters, mainly cause I actually like the course material and enjoyed learning it

and now I make a living blowing shit up

I have thought about grad school, but in this economy, its not going to get me a better job, maybe later on

I'm 29 and I graduate w/ a BS in engineering in 2 weeks. I got the "you're married?!?!?!" a couple of times, and well now we have a baby... there are quite a few older dudes in engineering, and often they're the best students.

I got my AAS @ 24.

I am 27 and have yet to finish my BS. I have about 3 semesters worth to finish if I was to go full time. With a wife, a little boy, and a full-time job, I don't know when I will go back.

I actually think it's sort of funny when everyone is like, "YOU'RE 28!!!!!!!!!!!"

The best/worst one was when the hottest girl in my oceanography class asked me if I was from North Carolina and I said I moved here after pre-scool in 1985. She said, "DANG! I WASN'T EVEN BORN TILL 1988!" lol!

I will be 28 when I graduate in December. I took time off and just went back to school a few years ago.
I went to wake tech and transfered to state a few semesters ago. Some full time and some part time due to work and other commitments. I too just told a guy in one of my classes how old I was and he pretty much freaked out.
I have also utilized the situation a few times for the parties and girls though, but not in the last couple years.

I also have a similar situation to HUR's friend up there. My little brother finished two degrees at State (Chemistry and Chem-E) and is now in pharmacy school. My brothers make me look bad.

common sense

while not necessarily smarter i could easily see how someone who spent a couple years working, serving in the armed forces, etc would have a little more dedication/work ethic/commitment than some 19 yr old in college to party along with school

^Yeh I feel that way too. You really respect going to school after you've been waking up early in the morning to go to work for 40+ hours a week. Smart students like me realize when it comes to scheduling that there is no need to go to class before 10:15 am.
