we all knew it was coming. but they announced that they will be laying off about 225 people at work around mid-mayoh bother
4/27/2009 6:53:12 PM
Damn man, sucks.Do you know if you're amongst the layoff-ees?
4/27/2009 6:53:58 PM

4/27/2009 6:54:24 PM

4/27/2009 6:56:05 PM
wife's company had their second round last week
4/27/2009 6:57:50 PM
I'm crossing my fingers that I won't be....and I really don't think that I will be among the people getting laid off. As it was explained to me by my manager and director 1) human factors is seen as a specialized skill, 2) there are only three of us human factors people among the thousands of employees at my facility, 3) we all have tons of work to do, and because of that 4) the human factors employees have their own job code. What that means is that when they're going to be laying people off, they're going to go after the thousands of software engineers that already don't have anything to do, before they would come after my job. Basically, there's always a justification for having us because we have our own job code....we're not thrown into the same distribution.
4/27/2009 6:58:27 PM
did you know 'welp' is not a word and 'whelp' means the young of the dog, wolf, bear, lion, tiger, or seal
Thank you for that. I will make a point in the future to never use slang on the internet, or anywhere else for that matter. NEVER.
4/27/2009 7:00:40 PM
good luck! if you get laid off you can apply to be my personal assistant
4/27/2009 7:01:11 PM
I think things got bad down here in Atlanta sooner than most places, but, that means we are recovering a bit faster now...we had our hours cut back to 32 last December, had layoffs early Jan, but I think things are looking up now. Been busy as shit at work.
4/27/2009 7:01:12 PM
well, our biggest blow came a few weeks ago when defense secretary Gates announced that he recommended not going forward with VH-71 (Presidential Helicopter program)....that was a contract that we had already won, and was $$ that we were counting onGates also announced they were pulling the plug on CSAR-X....another program that we were bidding for, and had already staffed for in anticipation of winning.
4/27/2009 7:04:26 PM
You'll be fine.Just be glad you're not in the private sector like some of us Those in our line of work tend to be considered "luxuries" when it comes time to trim the fat
4/27/2009 7:45:59 PM
engrish: how many people work in your office?EMCE: 225engrish: oh bother
4/27/2009 7:48:53 PM

4/27/2009 7:49:27 PM

4/27/2009 8:03:42 PM
Anyway, I predict the housing market around here is going to turn on it's head. My company is really the only major employer here. In the next few months, there are going to be a lot of people selling their houses
4/27/2009 8:03:49 PM
that sucks dude...i hope you come out okay
4/27/2009 8:10:45 PM
I'll be praying for you!
4/27/2009 8:12:29 PM
I just came here to defend the use of 'welp'
4/27/2009 8:38:46 PM
good luckdon't go volunteering for the severance pay thinking you had another job lined up like i did
4/27/2009 8:50:38 PM
I think how it works here is they'll give you like 6 weeks of pay if they lay you off....Then if you sign a waiver pretty much saying you won't try to sue them, they'll give you another 8 weeks of pay.
4/27/2009 8:52:59 PM
at least you have a nice career lined up in interracial gay porn if things go south
4/27/2009 8:53:20 PM
^ Hey man, I'm trying to move forward....Not take steps backwards into my old lifestyle
4/27/2009 8:54:19 PM
4/27/2009 9:01:38 PM
D-day is herethey started notifying people today that 1) either their job was eliminated or 2) they were being layed off because of a reduction in the need for workforce.People that get layed off have 90 days, during which the company will still pay them to work. they'll also pay them to look for other jobs.sad part is, this is the first wave. there will be another later this summer.
5/19/2009 12:34:20 PM
oh noes!!!Good luck lovah!
5/19/2009 12:40:46 PM
I hope you are not laid off, EMCE. Not having a job is the stinky pits.
5/19/2009 12:42:51 PM
This might be your last chance to take summer vacation until you're 65. Good luck bro!
5/19/2009 12:43:27 PM
thxI think I'm safe.....for nowspeciized skill setIPT lead on a corporate focus programyada yada yadaI think they'll be head hunting for the 1/400 program managers or the 1/800 software engineers instead
5/19/2009 12:46:39 PM
good luck on round two, buddythey just upped budget cuts from 7% to 18% here
6/2/2009 1:49:47 PM
So far I have survived three rounds of layoffs. I wouldn't worry too much about it. As long as you provide a service that very few people can even pretend to do, you should survive.
6/2/2009 1:57:37 PM
^^^Don't forget your most important asset, your blackedness! That helps in some places around layoff times because they think you may be affiliated. You should put a blue or red bandana (your choice) in your back pocket to keep em scared.
6/2/2009 2:09:20 PM
don't think I don't use that to my full advantage I'm at no risk of being fired, because I'm fantastic at what I do and everyone likes mebut I like to let them know that if they ever even considered it, I'd bring them down with me
6/2/2009 2:13:41 PM
EMCE you should drop hints to your superiors..."What'd you do this weekend EMCE?""Oh nothing, just played cards with Sue and watched the race. Pretty boring, just the race, cards, Sue, that's what WE do. Do you have any siblings? Have I told you about my brothers?"
6/2/2009 2:18:55 PM
^you probably hit "post reply", looked at it, and quickly realized how lame that attempt at humor wasbut you rolled wit it anyway
6/2/2009 5:56:02 PM

7/14/2009 6:29:37 PM
Do you work for Lockheed Martin? They laid off 600 people because the president was too jewish to buy a new helicopter.
7/14/2009 6:32:50 PM
YeahAnd it was more about defense secretary Gate's reduction in the defense budget, and subsequent recommendation to the president to not continue the program
7/14/2009 6:34:36 PM

7/14/2009 6:35:19 PM
