I did the same thing when the game first came out for the PS2. Then when it came out for Xbox I finally got around to beating it.

Easily the most fun GTA game ever though. So much to do, so wide open.

okay, so I know GTA:SA isn't the best game evar, but it (to me, anyway) is definitely ONE OF the best games ever.

it is quite easily the best GTA, and completely kicks the shit out of GTA4 IMO. GTA4 didn't have nearly a cool cast of characters like SA did, and they scrapped a lot of the shit in GTA4 that was such a blast in SA (paramedic missions, taxis, the schools, FUCKING FLYING A PLANE). GTA4 just felt........meh. I don't think it will stand the test of time at all, and will be much like GTA3 is now.

shenanigans = getting a phone call every 5 minutes to take somebody to eat so that you hardly ever have time to actually do a mission without losing friend points?

when you can steal harrier jets and jetpacks or steal a 747 that you can put on autopilot off the northeast corner of the map and when you die of starvation you wake up and territories in the 2nd and 3rd island are now gang territories, what more shenanigans do you need? would you rather pick up your friend to go bowling every 5 fucking minutes?

the only thing i liked better about GTA4 than GTA:SA was the graphics

the man dates are avoidable, all you gotta do is agree to take them somewhere and then immediately call back and cancel. you wont lose "friendship" for that. you dont have to do it.

but the single thing that turned me off from GTA:SA was the damn food and exercising. You HAD to do it, otherwise you'd be too out of shape or you'd be denied a mission cause you were a fatty. It made shit way too annoying. GTA4 wins simply because of this, despite the fact that SA was more "fun".

I vote for SA over 4 any day. 4 just got boring really quick, SA had a lot of variety and side stuff to mess around with, not to mention the whole area to explore was bigger and more interesting. The gym thing and eating was not that big of a deal, it was just a little side thing to do occasionally.

once you bulked up at the gym a couple times you never really needed to go back...assuming you spent a small amount of your time running around and weren't in a vehicle 24/7, running would be your exercise

my one buddy did get fat as shit though and was too fat to work out...he had to run (struggle to barely jog) like halfway across the map...but thats what happens when you eat 20 cluckin bell meals in a row

also i'll again reiterate that you can get in a 747 from the airport in vegas, fly northeast off the map, stablize the plane so it doesnt have a downward trajectory towards the ocean, and basically let the game do its thing...you'd eventually die of starvation but when you returned, there were new gang territories to take over...I remember the Ballas took over the Hoover Dam...it was hard to find them in that territory though you almost had to fuck with them and make them chase you there to initiate a gang war...but after about 5-10 autopilot flights, the majority of the map was controlled by one gang or another...tons of fun

dude, cheated out mountain bike in gta sa is easily one of the coolest vehicles ever. i mean at some point i would get tired playing story and have tons of silly shit to do, sweet bike jumps to hit and play forever. in IV you get story....or bowling

and the cheats are way sillier too - flying monster truck island hopping ftw

I loved how the dialogue would change in SA if you got really fat, though.

I know we are all entitled to our own opinions here, but this is where I call bullshit.

You never once were forced to do any excercising in the game, and you only had to eat if you were playing for 3 hours or longer. How the mere fact that you have to eat VERY sporadically throughout GTA: SA apparently ruins the game for you in favor of 4, when so much analogous shit is going on in 4 that, in my opinion, is far worse and unavoidable, well, I'm just going to have to call shenanigans.

I also like the city vs. country atmosphere in San Andreas. I loved being able to leave the big city and ride 4-wheelers through the trails. Or take one of the "harleys" down the country roads. I also miss skydiving. A lot.

there was hardly any variety and this, above all, was why i stopped playing.

granted, san andreas wasn't exactly the most diverse game either, but the cast of characters so was much better that those kinds of dynamics were what really made the missions in that game
