Ok, I know I may be asking for a lot, but I'd like to find a tent camping site at the coast with the following things:

- bathhouse with hot showers
- right on the ocean
- shade for the tent
- within 3 1/2 hours of Raleigh

I found places with some but not all. Ft Fisher has shaded tentsites and a bathhouse, but it's not right on the beach. This one place in Emerald Isle is beachfront and has showers, but there's no shade. Anyone have any suggestions? I don't mind the camping/rv combination campgrounds.

They should make a water slide from Raleigh to the beach. So when you're stressed out you just hop on the slide and go to the beach.

you can camp between the dunes at cape lookout and there's a bathhouse with gas heated water. you're close enough to hear the waves crashing in your tent at night. idk how long it takes to get there from raleigh because you must take a ferry. there's no shade because it's on the fucking beach.

quit being so picky. choose between on the beach and shade, because i doubt you'll ever find both.

If you are up for the drive, Rodanthe Watersports & Campground is great. Its inexpensive, waterfront (on the sound) and close to the beach. The sunsets are gorgeous (over the water) from your campsite and the guy might even let you use the kayaks for free.

Correct. How many trees do you see on the sand dunes/beachfront? Verrrryy little unless this is Flordia.

The ocean works just great for me. Mam, your camping. Go to carolina beach, you can drive your truck/4runner/whatever right on the sand and camp for a few nights. Done.

near emerald isle: hammock beach state park/bear island

http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/habe/main.php

you're going to be hard pressed to find shade right next to the ocean. i'm not sure how that would work unless you brought your own. trees don't grow there. what exactly were you expecting to find in terms of shade right on the beach? have you never been there?

Hunting Island State Park is a little farther than you want to find, but has everything else. Pictures speak for it.

Totally worth the drive.

if you want some shade buy one of the canopy tents to erect over the tent you are going to sleep in.

Hunting Island looks amazing, but

lame!

I know the likelihood of finding all the things I wanted in one campground was slim, but I figured I'd ask

Freeman Park in Carolina Beach is where i camp. No campsites though

My parents are camping at Carolina Beach Camp Park or something like that next month. They said they have campsites pretty much up next to the beach.

^^Now you just seem like you're trying to rule out anything someone might suggest.

It's camping. You take what you can get; otherwise, get a hotel.

bear island is great, but you have to take a ferry over to it and then "hike" in a mile or so to the campsites. but they do have showers.

there is this great place at Myrtle Beach that my family used to go to. I will figure out the name but it was sooooo awesome! I would love to do that this year. It is not that expensive.

bttt we're going around June 29 and want to stay about a week. I'm really familiar with the Atlantic Beach area, but would definitely be willing to go somewhere else. I would prefer it be no more than 4 hours away, but if it looks really awesome, I'd be willing to go 5 hours away or so. Also, hot showers are a must and it'd be great to find something really close to the ocean. I've googled the Salter Path Family Campground, but can't find a site that really tells me anything.
