I just got this email from my professor:
5/1/2009 8:43:21 PM
yes, college students whine when they don't get what they want
5/1/2009 8:44:32 PM
since when did students ever have responsibility for their own academic performance? everyone knows that instructors arbitrarily assign grades based on boob size
5/1/2009 8:44:51 PM
Most people are just grade grubbing and won't end up meeting with him... When they find out how much trouble they'll go through, they will think otherwise.
5/1/2009 8:45:32 PM
the growing sense of entitlement to As and Bs in todays college student is well-documented at this point. Same reason why a HS gpa of 4.0 now means fuck all.[Edited on May 1, 2009 at 8:46 PM. Reason : .]

I too am in that class.
5/1/2009 8:59:33 PM
Worst thing is because it was a "for engineers" course, there were a lot of ECE students there. There's a possibility that the ECE students all did well, but the probability doesn't mimic that.

39% As and folks are still whininghilarious

sooo i go to unc chapel hill now and i am in the early childhood program and these bitches whine ALL THE TIME! they complain that they dont understand an assignment, that they don't feel they had enough time to complete an assignment, that they need help understanding what is going to be on an exam, etc. AND THE PROFESSORS PUT UP WITH IT!! i have to keep from laughing and rolling my eyes
5/1/2009 9:50:25 PM
When 39% of your class has an A, there is no reason to complain about difficulty... however, my class' orgo I grades are finalized in webassign, and as of now there are a total of ~7% As. Not a single person is in the A+ range, and ~40% of the class failed or received a D. I think a professor is doing something a little wrong, grading wise, when there are distributions that low. (For perspective, as far as I've looked, even Warren's 201 has never had this poor of a distribution.)[Edited on May 1, 2009 at 10:07 PM. Reason : ]

I don't remember people bitching in my classes. I definitely had shitty professors, and we complained about their teaching (or lack thereof) but I don't ever remember people being pandered too this much. This is why our generation wiill not survive in the workplace!Or businesses will bend to their whim (like their teachers did) and we'll become an even lazier society that's ten times less productive.Oh joy!
5/1/2009 10:21:39 PM
This generation will do fine in the workplace, some might just have a hard slap-in-the-face encounter with reality. I almost want to e-mail the professor to let him know there were no problems with the grades the first time. He's a new professor, so he's just got to get used to being authoritative.
5/1/2009 10:25:41 PM
when I was in public speaking, the professor went out of his way to let/make me do a project I had blown off and was planning to take a 0 on.without any input on my part, he gave me a week extension and only took 10 points off the final grade. I thought I was in middle school again.
5/1/2009 11:24:16 PM
Was this for sociology?
5/1/2009 11:34:02 PM
^^ I already emailed him about it. I dont think he was really prepared for it. If youre in his class, you might go ahead and do it, too.
5/1/2009 11:41:36 PM
I have heard my professors talk about bumping up grades if you have a shitty first test but progressively improve through the course.

I ruined situations like this for a lot of my classes. I would be the only person to have scored 99-100 while everyone else scored in the 70s.... Professor would use my score as proof that the test was appropriate and everyone else was a slacker (which they usually were). It also meant that the curve was blown and their grade wouldn't get scaled.
5/2/2009 7:52:35 AM
we're all impressed
5/2/2009 8:10:23 AM
well, I guess it doesn't take much to impress you, then. you might want to try to get out a little more.

busting a curve aint easy but it sure is a lot of fun to hear the groans all around you when the teacher announces the curve busting grade.
5/2/2009 9:01:24 AM
Get real, you didn't bust curves with any more frequency than a handful of other socially bankrupt awkward nerds that roamed the halls of Daniels.

The tests in ECE were so easy you would be naive to think you were that smart just because you got a 90-100.That's like dunking on a 6 foot basketball goal....
5/2/2009 9:19:28 AM
It wasn't so much thinking that I was smart.... Like I told wawebste, its nothing to be impressed about. It was more about taking pleasure in ruining the curve* for everyone who was so lazy that they still couldn't make decent grades on those tests.* ruining the curve stands for cancelling extra credit opportunities or make-up tests, since I didn't really see many "curves" per se in engineering classes, but there was a lot of extra credit opportunities and make-up tests.[Edited on May 2, 2009 at 9:24 AM. I started to point that out in the last post that I don't know that I ever actually studied for any of the ECE tests save for an hour or so brush up for finals from time to time. Granted, my ECE GPA was only a 3.4 or so, but I was completely happy with that considering the effort I put in and the stupidly high level of fun I had at State.^ look clown, you weren't a curve buster in ECE 305, and the ex Marine we had for a professor was actually a brilliant lecturer compared to H. Ozturks first year teaching linear and I don't recall any kids crying like a bitch to her at the level you did. I fathom you didn't do ANY curve busting as there we lots of smart kids running around that place ready to suck more professor cock than even a faggot like you could handle.[Edited on May 2, 2009 at 9:26 AM. 5/2/2009 9:25:44 AM
There is no reason you cant do both.If you cant make decent grades and get laid regularly while in college you've failed somewhere. You have infinite free time, everyone is broke, wtf else are you going to do?
5/2/2009 9:27:12 AM
^ exactly.
5/2/2009 9:28:11 AM
hahaha what is the back story between you two homers
5/2/2009 9:31:25 AM
Exactly? Just how many lesbians did you fuck in college you Columbine wanna be?[Edited on May 2, 2009 at 9:32 AM. Reason : .]^ There really isn't much of a back story. Matthew is clearly a good grade earner, possibly pretty smart but I suspect he was a big time studier. We had ECE 305 together, Power Systems, with a first time associate professor that was ex military and entirely unprepared to teach a college class. He did the ole, cram 50% of the class into 75% of it and then tried to smash the other half of it into a quarter of the time, and if I recall correctly, the last half of it was heavy on the motors part of class. So he was a terrible lecturer but didn't admit it, and was a hard ass about the testing. Well, to say the last exam before the final was terrible grade wise is an understatement. I seem to remember mine being in the high 60s low 70s and feeling fortunate as there were teens, 20s, 30s and 40s all over the place. I don't know what ole Matt got, but it was bad enough that he stood face to face arguinng with the guy at the front of the room after the tests had been handed out (and other people were waiting) and had his voice go progressively higher as the marine told him essentially that he was a little bitch and was more or less at the point of tears. I remember him stomping out of the room like a spoiled brat mumbling he was going to talk to the dean or something and the marine was like "do I give a fuck?".It obviously sticks out and something I don't know I'll ever forget it was so hilarious.[Edited on May 2, 2009 at 9:38 AM.
