What is the best way to hook up a laptop that doesn't have s-video output (i.e. only video out is VGA) to a TV? I saw a few VGA to S-video converters, but have not seen any good reviews indicating they even work. Any ideas?

I have a little box that I bought from best buy that allows you to plug in 4 different devices and it works pretty well. Think it was about $50 when I bought it but there are much cheaper options. I run the s-video cable from my laptop to the box and use a regular composite cable to hook from the box to the tv. Use a cable that goes from a 3.5mm jack to 2 RCA jacks.

Get a VGA to DVI adaptor and a DVI to HDMI Cable.

Yeah you want to use vga to hdmi. RCA or S-video won't give you a native resolution.

^^ and ^

You tardo's realize that won't work at all, right?

HDMI is a digital interface. VGA is an analog interface. DVI is a dual mode interface.

VGA-> DVI-I will give you an analog signal

DVI-D-> HDMI will give you a digital signal.

VGA->DVI-I->HDMI will give you nothing.

You make a good point. I wasn't thinking. DVI has an analog too, hdmi doesn't.
