Not the smartest idea...

Everyone knows part of the parking lot at Carmichael is under construction and is fenced off. The scuba program at school is doing their open water checkouts this week at a local quarry and we needed to get into the fenced zone to load and unload gear at the back of the pool.

There were 5 cars parked there for a bit this afternoon. We come outside and there are 2 cars blocking our exit...parked directly where we would drive through to leave, in the "No Parking Any Time" zone. Took us about an hour to leave after getting out of the pool.

I will let my cell phone shots tell the story...

The line of cars waiting to leave...

The culprits...

Nope, none of us could fit inbetween them...

One car on the tow truck...

Second car on the tow truck...

Bags of rocks, but we weren't about to move anything.

Why did they park there if there were tons of other open spaces to begin with?

I was hoping that this would have ended with the cars on fire.

Earlier, the gym parking lot was packed.

edit: I believe they got the double-whammy. The cop we spoke with wrote them each a ticket too. Not sure if he kept it on there when the tow-truck got there but I'm pretty sure he did.

We were hoping that the people who owned the cars would come out before the tow truck got there, but no such luck...we felt a bit bad they were getting towed (never any fun) but what else were we going to do?

I'm glad you got them towed... but there's no way i would have waited an hour without trying to move the fence

We found out about the trucks around 4:55 when we were finishing filling tanks. I believe someone went to the front to see if they could announce it in the gym but I don't believe they could.

By the time we finished filled tanks and gathering everything up (maybe ~10-15 minutes later?) a police officer was there writing tickets for the cars, and I believe he called a tow truck but I'm not actually sure who did that. The tow truck got there maybe around 5:40-5:45? 2nd car was up by 5:53.

So I suppose we really only waited about 45 minutes after we actually had everything done at the pool. Waiting wasn't too bad, we all sat around and talked politics.

these people need to start sucking it up and parking in the deck or on the street going towards jordan

it's getting seriously dumb around there with the vultures circling around perpetually

This is true. I did find it ironic that people would do this when they are (presumably) going to the gym for a workout -- risking parking in a No Parking zone to get closer to the gym, when you could park farther away and walk.

Eh, none of us were particularly angry since we knew the situation would resolve itself soon enough. We are all the patient type.

Plus it was nice outside.

well, you rarely see towing on campus. transportation would rather line your wipers with tickets. they only tow when you're blocking something, as in this case.

I do feel pretty bad for whoever owns the cars, but we gave them ample time and did everything we could to find them.

As to moving the fence -- there were curbs on either side of the two cars in question. I'm betting 3 of us could have gotten out (two trucks + the jeep) but the guys in the lower Saturn and Vibe might have had issues going over the curbs.

I've noticed cars have been parking there a lot lately. Sucks that the gym is so packed and there aren't many spots nearby

Ironically enough, when the tow-truck was putting these two cars up, he blocked 2 cars from leaving the parking lot.

Ahh good times I got the verbal story when my bf got home from filling tanks. Glad to see the pictures came out well from your camera. I just wish you had gotten a pic with the gate saying NO PARKING with all your cars behind it.

ALSO, good luck tomorrow and watch out for lightning!!

ITT, we see two douchebags get what they deserve.

Don't feel too bad about the fact that they had to be towed. They'd have been angry at you for asking them to move their cars even though they were in the wrong. People who do shit like this don't think like normal people.

i've been parking in the reynolds deck for about 6 years now. i've never had any incidents. nothing stolen vandalized, nothing. i've never seen any vandalism (though i'm sure it happens occasionally). there are so many people in and out of that deck during the week it would be a stupid to do anything.

I never had my car broken into in the 2.5 years I parked in the decks either. My car very obviously has an aftermarket head unit (though I remove the face plate when parking the car). I was actually expecting somebody to bust into it at some point just to see if I had any nice equipment (like a sub or something, but I don't need that to get the sound I want). Nobody ever did.

I do tend to keep the inside of my car immaculate, or else there will simply be paper trash on the front passenger side (i.e. napkins, receipts). It's also a jeep cherokee, and those tend not to harbor expensive things inside of them.

Being afraid to park in the deck is just silly unless you're MaximaDrvr. That dude is cursed.

no, but considering that the alternative is the Reynold's deck, it gets really annoying
