The smallest deer known alive in the world is the Pudu. It stands only 13 to 15 inches tall or 33 to 38 cm at the shoulder and only weighs around 18 pounds or 8.2 kg.

The Pudu can be found in Chile and Argentina. If you accidentally come upon a Pudu and frighten him, he will in fact bark similar to a dog even though they are not related.

they used to have some barking deer at the old zoo (now closed) in wake forest...

there were probably 30 females and one (very tired ) male.

The Brevard Zoo, in Melbourne, FL, released photos Wednesday of a Chilean pudu born at the zoo
on May 21. The female is currently about seven inches long and weighs just over one pound. At
birth, she only weighted 475 grams.
