My friend is turning 24 today and wants to go out downtown tonight. I haven't been out on a Wednesday night in years so I'm a little out of touch. What are some good bars on Wednesday nights? She isn't into clubs like Hi-5, but rather somewhere that will be busy and where you are able to maintain a conversation without yelling in the other person's ear.

On a serious note.....

Buckhead has college night on wednesdays. $1.50 wells, and its usually pretty crowded. They play mostly hip-hop on weds nights, and you will probably have a hard time holding a long conversation.

Rum Runners is usually pretty hoppin on wednesdays. $1.25 wells i believe on weds nights too. The dueling pianos are pretty loud though, so you will probably have a hard time holding a long convo, but they do take breaks and you can talk in between.

If youre lookin for somewhere more chill without booming music, maybe hit up hibernian, i've been there twice and enjoyed it (mostly because of the company).

i feel like the times, landmark, and busy bee all get a decent crowd on week nights. but not so crowded you can't speak to other people. also, if it doesn't rain (or if it is just scattered and goes away by ton) you could sit outside at landmark/the times. and i guess busy bee too but i was underwhelmed by the roof deck.

I guess it's been a LONG time since I've been to Rum Runners on a Wednesday, it used to be .75 well drinks. Damn inflation!

I am a fan of Boylan Bridge Brewpub, but only when the weather is nice. I love the view of downtown. The Saucer is my favorite bar in Raleigh, but this time of year the patio is a must. The best part about Buckhead is being able to escape to the patio as well. Good thing it is mostly covered!

The Times is always a good option, and there are a good handful of bars on Fayetteville St for bar hopping. Thanks again for everyone's input.

I went to Tir-Na-Nogs for the first time a while ago, it was pretty cool. When I went they had a live band and we had to sit pretty close to the front so it was pretty loud, but if there is a live band there are places to sit where its quieter.
