Ok so I am getting laid off Tomm and I need to somehow copy and burn all my work emails to a CD for future reference.

Whats is the best way to do this?

Should I import/export them to a pst file?

Also can a pst file only be opened my outlook?

Export to a PST, or just copy the main PST. You can find where it is through something like Tools > Options > Data Files. Or right-click on the Outlook desktop icon to go to Properties to find the data files

So if I export them to a PST and burn this PST file on a CD. How will I later open this PST file? Outlook on my home computer?

I've been trying the autoarchive (same thing as exporting to pst basically - just does it automatically on a schedule) thing, but with no luck.

I've got office 2007 on Vista ultimate - anyone else with autoarchive problems in outlook? my issue is that nothing gets archived. I have the global and local policies set, but I get nothing.

Thunderbird should definitely be able to open the PST, just make sure you don't have a password or any encryption on the PST.

just save a copy of the .pst file to a CD. by default it's under users, app data, microsoft, outlook.

in outlook you can go to data file management and see where it's at. just copy that to a cd. once at home copy that file to your other computer, go back into data file management, add data file, point it to that file and there you go.

^^Winner.

Thunderbird is a terrible suggestion. Its damn near impossible to get email back out of it to any other application
