My dad's looking to get a 1500 4x2 v8 ~$9000. I'm trying to convince him not to, but I might as well keep looking while he's insistent. Not considering Ford or Dodge.
what's the max mileage you'd be willing to consider? A guy at the machine shop says he wouldn't trust those things past 150k (engine-wise). I've found a few good deals at 100k-115k miles but wasn't sure about reliability.
Is a GMC Sierra going to be the exact same thing, or is one actually better than the other? 5/7/2009 9:53:24 AM |

both are the same, but i can vouch for those trucks running well past 300k, if they are well maintained, what year are you looking at? if you can find am 99-02 4.8 V-8, thats a great truck for a two wheel drive, it will get over 22 mpg, the 5.3 gets about 18 5/7/2009 10:00:02 AM |

Lookin' at the '99 and up style with 4-door ext cab (rear suicide doors or whatever they're called, not the crew cab). I've seen some with the 3-door in that body style and he's trying to stay away from that.
22mpg.. on the highway, I'm assuming?
And if anyone knows anyone with one fitting all these criteria, my dad doesn't want a white one or a red one. Which sucks 'cause I see white ones going for good prices the most 5/7/2009 5:42:10 PM |

i've had both chevy and GMC's and the only real difference I've noticed are little interior things
the interior on all my gmc's were nicer, but it comes at a cost 5/7/2009 5:54:13 PM |

that's what we got
$8850 for the truck.. something like $9100 out the door (tax, title, tag)
window sticker was $11,900. autotrader price was $9500. I called this morning to make sure it was still on the lot and the secretary told me it's dropped to $8950 Salesman wrote down the sticker price when negotiations started only to cross it out seconds later with $8950 after I spilled the beans I tried to go $8950 AND they repair the speakers and wind noise, but they wouldn't have that.
57k miles work truck (vinyl floors, manual locks and windows) awesome dark grey color they're delivering to parents' house (2 hr drive)
gripes: lots of wind noise coming from right rear window, a little from left rear a scratch along the length of the driver door and a few minor scratches on the ext cab door both front speakers dead (perhaps a wiring issue? no problemo to fix) driveshaft and lower portion of rear shocks have lots of rust on them (MD and WV truck) not enough power for me (fine for dad), not nearly as peppy as a v8 tundra some rust on lower engine bay components

twas the best deal BY FAR i've found. especially considering with that mileage. my dad actually likes the fact that the door locks and windows are manual "less stuff to break"
almost everything below $9500 (and '99 up) was >100k miles. Searched CL all over western half of NC and autotrader. 5/8/2009 6:44:42 PM |
