I need to make a quick decision between these classes for summer session. Those who have had these classes, it would be great if you can give me some feedback on which you think is the easier A class.

PHI 214 is with Hettche (10 week summer class) and PHI 205 is with Bykova (5 week summer class).

Thanks!

I tried to take 205 with Bykova a couple of years ago... I had to drop it a couple weeks in, partially because she pronounces Kant as "Cunt" and she talks about Cunt alot.

205 sucks as a class. Bykova sucks as a teacher.

if hettche(sp?) makes you do the project where you pick a book i suggest "the corporate planet"...its not that great of a book but its an easy read and the project based on it is easy

Dr. Bykova is great, she does have a strong accent, but she was a wonderful teacher who knew her stuff. I took a few classes with her & got a research grant that I worked with her on for a philosophy research paper as an undergrad.

[Edited on May 23, 2009 at 11:36 AM. Reason : nvm, I see you already picked, any 200 lvl Phi class will be a good experience w/ any instructer imo]

I had Hettche for PHI214 one Spring. Assignments are cake but he video tapes his lectures and wraps them into Vista somehow along w/ the powerpoint slides. Listening to him drone on in his monotone voice was the most boring shit ever, but the course material itself was actually pretty interesting. It's ethics or something similar if I recall.

^ Yeah, the course material doesn't seem too bad. The quizzes are what worry me a bit since they cover so much reading. Not really sure the best way to prepare for them.

The quizzes are all open note, so it shouldn't be much of an issue, when I had him, the answers all came directly from the powerpoint. My strategy was basically to watch the lecture, skim the powerpoints, familiarize myself with the general topic of each one. Before taking the quiz, have each lecture/powerpoint open in a separate tab for fast searching.

Oh hmm... ok. His quizzes now cover a lot more than just lectures and the power points. It includes readings from the text as well as online readings.

Thanks for your feedback though!
