i've saved up some money and want to buy a small house or townhouse now.... i work on glenwood around pleasant valley and want to be close to major highways, shopping (i like crabtree and southepoint)
i'm thinking somewhere around brier creek or glenwood although i think the glenwood area is kind of old with all the car and furniture stores.........i've also looked around the cary area along davis grow as well.....west cary around amberly seems a little out there and may take more time to grow....but i like cary since it seems newer than glenwood but it's not as convenient to shopping etc
i'm single and have no kids....any good new or existing subdivisions you can recommend?
it has to have a garage and not older than 5 years max....oh and i'm not keen on living in downtown due to congestion and lack of shopping.....thanks! 5/13/2009 2:16:17 PM |

what is your budget
they are building a big mixed use project at davis/morrisville carpenter called grace park. i actually did a lot of work on that. (condos with retail/restaurant space below)
there is also a bunch of other stuff in that area and up by brier creek and on ebeneezer church (by carmax on glenwood)
cary's not that bad getting to crabtree or southpoint.
i would suggest just taking a drive around the areas to get a feel for what is out there.. or look around on realtor.com

Cornerstone Park and (i think) long lake are right in between where you work and brier creek. I used to live in a house there (the hood is a mix of houses and townhomes). There are a lot of young professionals who live in the area, and you're walking distance to a bar (Ben's Place), and pretty close to everything (ok downtown raleigh is a little bit of a haul).
There's several other new construction townhouse communities in the same general area, but IIRC, they're all around the ~$200k range and up

There are some townhomes in the cameron village area that would fit your budget. they're also bout 180k for 1000sqft. Not bad places. Plus whole foods, HT and captial city grocery are all right there. actually CCG is closed now. 5/13/2009 3:26:44 PM |

Might be better to say "10 miles from Southpoint". That could be 10 minutes or 1 hour depending on the time of day and the weather. Morrisville is kind of like a trap from 4:45-6:00 every day.

Yeah, my daughter's daycare is in that area, and with NO traffic, from that part of davis to southpoint is 20 minutes minimum. 5/13/2009 3:51:35 PM |

Oh are there townhomes in subdivisions with more of a neighborhood feel like walkable, maybe mixed in with houses (for example Long Lake, Twin Lakes). I prefer these more than strict townhome subdivisions where all they have are a few townhome units, no clubhouse or pool, and not very walkable within the neighborhood. Reason is I have a dog too that I'd like to walk around the neighborhood.
Yeah I've always been leaning towards the Cornerstone, Long Lake area along Glenwood. I know a lot of friends living there. But my friends keep telling me their places gets broken in. I actually think it's pretty close to downtown raleigh, straight down Glenwood.
How about the Crabtree area? Or the Crossroads area? I know there's a couple of new developments around Tryon. 5/13/2009 3:57:01 PM |

Crescent Ridge fits most of that bill.
10 mins from downtown. 1 mile from 40...3 from Crossroads.
They have Garages, club house and a pool. Plenty of walking places, including the lake. 5/17/2009 9:29:32 PM |

I am pretty much in the same boat as you....looking for a place (most likely townhouse) less than 5 yrs old with garage in the morrisville/brier creek area, since I work in RTP. My budget is around the same, less than 225k. I have found some places that I like at Brier Creek but they just seem so expensive for what you get.
I have decided that I don't want to live down Glenwood b/c I want to avoid coming in glenwood/70 during rush hour everyday, so that rules out Glenwood north, glenwood station, etc...plus I don't really like the Glenwood area that much, like you said it's just old furniture stores and other places that have been there forever.
Anyone have other suggestions in the Cary/Morrisville area? 5/19/2009 8:22:29 AM |

Check out kitts creek in morrisville. I'm not sure if the THs have garages, but they're definitely in your price range. There are several other TH communities further into Morrisville, but traffic gets worse than glenwood traffic during rush hour... 5/19/2009 8:24:45 AM |

My neighbors house is for sale. 3 bedroom town house less than 3 years old, 1 car garage. Off of avent Ferry near Tryon. really quick access to downtown raleigh, I-40, etc. I'm not sure what they're asking though but I think it might be around your $225k budget.
there is a brand new harris teeter ~2 traffic lights away on Tryon Rd. and Crossroads is less than 5 minutes away.
PM me if you want details like address etc.
It is a really nice townhouse neighborhood with a clubhouse and a pool. And since you have a dog, seems like every other person has a dog too. (including me) There is always at least one or two people walking a dog at any given time during the day and evening. (not exaggerating)
oh and lake johnson is about 3/4 - 1 mile down the street.

I live right outside Brier Creek in Meadows @ Pagehurst
its on the corner of Page Rd and Alexander DR. ~3 miles from Brier Creek and there is another shopping center w/ a Food Lion, CVS, Ace Hardware and various food places right outside the neighborhood.
I've lived here for almost 3 years and I love the location.
I work near Pleasant Valley as well and sometimes the traffic can get heavy in the mornings ~8am and coming home in the afternoons ~5pm. 5/19/2009 5:12:15 PM |
