Actually...I saw it elsewhere earlier today. So I suppose that qualifies it as [old].

I don't think the Internet has a future, it has to be getting close to self-destruction.

It won't even be competing with Google. They have two completely different purposes.

You know, Google already has a limited but similar feature:

http://www.google.com/search?q=population+nc

http://www.google.com/search?q=president+france

http://www.google.com/search?q=braves+score

I bet it'll get better.

perhaps....but I guess it's a matter of where they want to spend their money. Plus....wolfram will also get better and they probably have resources that are far different to google or else google would have been using them by now.

they are clearly solving a different problem than Google is.

What does Google do? Find webpages for you.
What does Alpha do? Analyze and present data for you.

And rest assured, Google [b]does[b] "know about" Wolfram. It's probably safe to say that people inside Google use Wolfram's main software, Mathematica, and Brin and Page almost certainly did in college.

btw, i am skeptical and somewhat critical of Alpha in this thread, but many of you guys are clearly ignorant of who exactly Stephen Wolfram and his company are.....

Clearly they do something different than google. I know google KNOWS about them but what google does as a side benefit (and yes, side benefit because you can't type in regular old search terms like "what was the weather 8/9/2001 los angeles" and get an answer....certainly not quickly) so yes they do different things but analyzing data in that direction isn't what google focus' on
