So I will be traveling to Boston with my parents to go visit my sister and her husband. I will be taking their portable DVD Player, a lot of movies, my Game Boy SP, and am now getting ready to go look for my sisters book light. I will be taking my camera too. My mom will also be taking her camera and she also bought a GPS. The trip should take 12 hours.

Whatever happened to using a map, reading a book during the day, and doing all of the other things that don't involve electronics? Somehow I survived 24 hour trips to Iowa and 10 hour trips to Florida without all of this stuff when I was little.

I couldn't take a 12 hour road trip with my parents even with all the ipods, gameboys and dvds in the world

I would definitely fly instead...you can get flights to Boston out of Raleigh or Charlotte for 300 or less

I used to dominate my brother in some car bingo back in the day.

(note: car bingo were these little cardboard games with random road shit on them. If you saw something, you covered it up. If you covered up enough of them, you got bingo. It was much simpler times)

I analyzed football statistics and made my own league made up of re-drafted teams with coach/gm profiles and salary caps and played entire seasons out in my head and on paper.

This is why I still know the majority of RBs and QBs from around 1986-1990

Applebee's has been around since the early 80's

Even if you're 35 that still puts them in your childhood age bracket

You don't need those things to survive travelling. Well, at least you don't if you're not a socially inept dipshit.

Come on dude, you're almost in your 30's.

Yeh I pretty much did nothing the entire trip besides talk and look out the window, but I did manage to watch a few classic western films and Cinderella Man. Also, I can remember when there was no XM radio and people actually had to listen to local stations.

btw, having a GPS isn't a bad thing. It sure was helpful when we made a wrong turn in the slums of New York City!

I FUCKING LOVED THAT GAME.

And when the trip is long enough, we'd play for FULL CARD. Whoever got the board with "Tree Grove" on it was usually fucked.

^We had those too when I was little and we always tried to fill the card. It got very challenging as fewer and fewer people between Raleigh and Tampa and Raleigh and Livermore drove Red VW Beatles. Then VW finally came out with the New Beatle and it was easier again!

I recently discovered that long car rides with a significant other can be great fun and MUCH more bearable than ones with just friends

For what its worth I think Applebees sucks too, but the one Applebees I went to in Kansas City was a billion times better than the ones around here. I guess it helps your quality control when the CEO could walk in the door on any given day.

^Having a GPS is not a bad thing when you are driving through the ghetto in NYC and other large cities.
