i'm looking at going up to carolina beach for the day during the weekend and also considering camping over for a night

has anyone camped at the Freeman Park area recently? according to the carolinabeach.org website, you can camp on the beach up there past mile marker 6. How much room is up there? will it be too crowded to find a good camping area on memorial day weekend?

http://www.carolinabeach.org/site_new/pages/freeman_park.html

other places to drive up on the beach and camp within 2.5hrs of raleigh would be interesting.

theres sand - literally. theres no park. unless you're fairly experienced in beach camping/camping in general, be prepared for sand all in your tent, food, etc.

yea but how far does the camping area go .. is it going to be people on top of people or what. it says you can camp north of mile marker 6, how much further can you go past that? 200 ft? 2 miles?

quite awhile - i wouldnt be worried about space, about 1/3 mile after that(maybe?)....unless you're looking to go up there fri night or sat am - if you wanna camp this weekend, get ur ass up there mid-day friday - did this last year

yeah if you go waaaaaaay down the beach, its not that bad. Alot of times though, thats where the really rowdy drunk group set up shop, especially since it takes the patrol to get down there. during the day its pretty packed, because of all the people who come out just for the day.

what kind of vehicle you guys taking??

is Carolina Beach still a giant, sandy trailer park?

If so, and if you have to drive from Raleigh anyway, why not go to a better beach?

yeah there's some pretty bad lookin parts, but there's a good amount of decent looking houses too. it'll be a few years til it gets too expensive and redone probably, but it might be nice sometime soon

I love camping at carolina beach. Campfire, beers, tents, blackout.

Not Memorial Weekend.
