The virus only has a lifespan of a few hours outside of the body. Closing schools to students is to keep them from passing the disease to each other, not because they are going to catch swine flu from the building or something. Seriously, aren't you a teacher? What don't you understand?

^ Obviously no concept of what we do over here. We're just English teachers, we hold 0 sway over the decisions of what the Boards of Education do. This is typical Japanese knee-jerk reaction to a non-threatening emergency.
5/20/2009 8:41:27 AM
^^ Yeah, there's zero way for adults to pass it to each other in close quarters. Inconceivable!
5/20/2009 8:43:44 AM
What are you talking about? I knew wolfpackgrrr is an english teacher. It is pretty difficult to not know that if you've ever seen one of her posts.

^^ Have you never worked a job where a coworker comes in sick? It happens at my work all the time And it's not just "vital staff" it's everyone coming in except the students, so about a hundred people in my office room alone.

Wow Ronny, you're either being extremely dense, stupid or a troll. You're looking at this from the view of an American worker. In Japan, you come into work, no matter what. Be it coughing, fever, runny nose or the chills. For some reason the golden bullet of sick time in Japan is diarrhea, odd. So, teachers will come in even if they feel like shit and proceed to cough everywhere. Because in Japan, they don't teach you to cover your mouth if you cough, that's what the mask is for. I don't know how many times I've had a kid cough directly into my face because no one taught the crotch dropping to put his hand in front of his mouth.
