Huey Lewis and the News - It's Hip to Be Square ($1.29)

Why did they think people would be willing to pay 30 cents more for *this* song?

why are people so ignorant to the fact that iTunes, Amazon, and all the other music services don't get to set the pricing.

Neither the title of the thread said that iTunes set the price. Please flame elsewhere.

^ only because that is the only place that I buy music. I have no idea what the song would cost on Amazon or wherever. My thread is fine the way it is, for those of us not trying to stroke our internet-dick. ktnxbye

vynl,

I guess I could have bitched about all the shitty Who songs that people actually pay for, but it would be too easy. "Hey, check it out! I can play a guitar with a bow from a violin!" "hey, check it out! I can make tedious rock operas!" Haha people pay $.99-$1.29 for that rubbish.

RSXTypNLSKL:KDLK,
The prices of some songs are different on Amazon than they are on iTunes.

1. vynl?
2. Of all the bands you could pick, why the Who?
3. Pete Townshend never played guitar with a bow. He left that pussy shit to Page.

"the power of love" is a typical cheesy love song with typical dated-as-all-hell (see "born in the usa") FM keyboards and typical huey lewis vocals

"it's hip to be square" has typical huey lewis vocals and typical dated-as-all-hell FM keyboards, but might be the stupidest concept for a rock song ever

I disagree. I think HL's undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square". The song is so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.

^ Then surely it must be worth $1.29?!

Anyway, "I Want a New Drug" is obviously the masterpiece. So very exquisite, it was also a hit for Ray Parker, Jr.!

^ That is also a good song off of HL's album Sports, which came out in '83. I think they really came into their own on this album, both commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. HL's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humour.

I mean I don't know much about computers but I don't think an mp3 is imaginary. Something to do with Megabits.

^^the cost of duplication is so low that it's practically zero, unlike material goods where reproduction takes an appreciable quantity of capital relative to its value

the market valuation of most forms of data is artificial, legislated, creating piracy exchanges and various black markets

you can't legislate value or demand: it failed with alcohol prohibition, fails with drug prohibition, and it's failing with intellectual property as well.
